Once upon a time there was a family of monkeys who lived in a beautiful and quiet forest. There was a Father monkey a Mother monkey and a brother and sister monkey who were very happy and loved each other very much. |
They loved to search the forest for fruits and while they were gathering food, they would listen to the sounds of the birds and watch the colorful butterflies that lived in the trees. |
One day this family had a third baby. A beautiful, bright eyed baby girl monkey that they named Gabby because she started chattering almost as soon as she was born. |
Before anyone knew it Gabby was not only chattering but she was talking and imitating everything in the forest. |
At first, the monkeys were very proud of the youngest member of their family, but soon it became clear that little Gabby could not stop talking, imitating animals or constantly making some type of noise.
Adult monkeys did not want to be around her because she constantly interrupted.
Young monkeys did not want to be around her because she would not stop talking long enough to learn the rules of their games. |
Even the birds and butterflies flew away because little Gabby made so much noise that she scared everything and everyone away.
At meals Gabby spent so much time talking that by the time she started eating everyone else had finished their food and were off playing.
Little Gabby found that she always ended up eating alone. |
One evening during the rainy season Gabby’s mother tried explaining how she needed to cover up with leaves in order to stay warm during the rain, but as usual Gabby was too busy talking to listen.
The next morning little Gabby woke up cold, wet and completely unable to talk.
She couldn’t talk, imitate anything or make any noise whatsoever. |
The Doctor examined her and found that she would be just fine in a few days and that her voice would eventually return.
In the meantime all of the older monkeys came to visit and tell Gabby stories. They stayed and looked after her because she listened and could not interrupt. |
In a few days Gabby was well enough to go out and lots of monkeys came and asked her to play. Since she could not talk, she learned the rules of the games and had lots of fun. . |
One day Gabby went into the forest with her family to get fruits and was amazed at the beautiful songs of the birds and the colors of the butterflies. She was so quiet that some butterflies landed on her.
She began to learn the sounds of the forest and found that if she listened, she could tell if the wind or the rain was coming.
Soon Gabby was able to talk softly, but she preferred to listen.
Before long Gabby was able to talk normally, make animal sounds or any noise that she wanted. Instead she preferred to talk softly and mostly listen.
Now Gabby enjoys listening as older monkeys tell her wonderful stories.
Now, Gabby likes learning new games and playing with her friends.
Now, Gabby talks very little at meals and finishes eating with the rest of the family so that she never eats alone and has lots of time to play. |
But what Gabby loves doing the most is sitting quietly and enjoying the sights and sounds of the forest.
