Introduction:

Hi, I’m Tom, a fun, happy, and successful guy, and I am thankful that you are reading my book. I promise to deliver more than your money’s worth.

This book is my regurgitation of an entire career’s worth of self-help and business improvement study. In it, I summarize what I remember, what I’ve tried, and what I continue to use from the hundreds of hours that I have taken to read and implement these techniques into my life.

Without being too preachy, I will give you my opinion about what has worked for me and what did not.

Some things definitely have worked. Since I began reading these works, I have founded a very successful company, married a beautiful and intelligent woman, appeared on a number of national TV shows, created a successful charity group, and written three best-selling how-to books. I am happy, fun, and very successful. You can be too.

Chapter 1 – Why I Can’t Resist Self-Help Books

Did you know that I am an avid reader of self-help books. “What?” you say. “That’s unbelievable! After all, aren’t you already rich, handsome, and successful?” Well, my friend, I read self-help books because I want to stay on the top of the heap.

You’ve heard the saying “It’s lonely at the top”? Well, that’s because people like me keep kicking everyone else back down the hill. I read self-help books to keep my pimp hand strong.

But you seem like a stand-up type of person. I like you, so I’m going to share everything I know with you. Like a mother bird chews up, partially digests and spits up worms for her young, I will do the same with all of the best self-help books ever written. In fact, that is where I got the title for this book. I mashed all of the best-selling book names into one exhaustingly long book title. I’m sure it will google well.

For each book I will give you a Summary of what is said within. If the book is light and fluffy, as many of them are, the summary will be short. If the book is well-researched and poignant, the summary will be longer. Surprisingly, the authors themselves don’t use this method. If they did, some of these books would be pamphlets.

I also will talk about a book’s Staying Power. This is my own interpretation of how long I followed the recommendation of the book. Some of these books I continue to think about and use, others left my mind soon after I put them down.
Finally, I discuss What Did I Take Away. Here I tell you about how this book actually changed my life and what positive or negative experiences I had after reading this book.

So, without bothering you any further, let’s get started book by book.

Chapter 2 – I Regurgitate Good To Great by Jim Collins

Summary: Good To Great is the result of an exhausting business study that analyzed hundreds of companies to determine if it is actually possible to take a good company and make it great. You see, the business world is full of good companies, but it has only a few great companies. Is it possible to turn one into the other?

The answer is yes, but it definitely isn’t easy. You see, Mr. Collins’ buzz phrase is “Good is the opposite of Great” and he is probably correct. When a company is good, people get complacent, they think that what they do, what they have always done, is enough, but they are wrong. Continuous improvement is required and “good” companies just aren’t that good at improving.

Here are five things that make a great company great.

Leaders who are humble and are driven to do what is best for the company.

Getting the people right first, then deciding their roles. Collins learned that people who are never satisfied are required to drive a company forward and that these people will succeed no matter what role they take in a company.
