Chapter One

Once upon a time, in the wood, was a squirrel who was in charge of the storage of the nut reserve for the winter; because, you see, in the winter, there are no more nuts on the trees. This squirrel was called "Wicked Chief Squirrel" because she was a chief and because she was very wicked. She was always busy spying on the other squirrels who were doing the very hard work of picking and storing the nuts.

The other worker squirrels were not sleeping or eating a lot but they were mainly working all day and all night. Also, the Wicked Chief Squirrel liked picking on the other squirrels, just to make them cry. “Why??” You would ask. Just because she liked it and she thought it was fun. She was inspecting the worker squirrels day and night because she wanted to be sure that the worker squirrels were working very hard all the time, and that they had no fun at all.
