Chapter 1: The month in summary

Going stir crazy from boredom? There’s absolutely no point in trying to be busy this month unless your plans include visiting old friends, getting some exercise or repairing a broken relationship. In many ways there isn’t a lot happening astrologically this August and for many of us, that may seem like a blessed relief. Yet actually that’s part of the problem. There are four planets in retrograde motion right now which means there’s lots of weakened, confused energy about.

With Mercury amongst the effected retrograde planets you can be sure that nothing this month is going to go according to plan. So expect travel delays, technology problems or misunderstandings to be on the list of things “likely to happen”. Perhaps due to the level of mis-communication, there could also be a delay to payments – whether that includes ones you are due to send out or money you were hoping to receive – like a rent cheque for example. Not only that, but Mars is in the sign of Cancer and this is only going to add to the quick tempers that are flying around. Whilst tapping your toes in frustration might initially seem to alleviate some of the nervous energy, it’s really doing nothing more than reminding your brain that you’re feeling frustrated. Why not go for a run or swim instead?

Looking on the bright side…August is a holiday month for most of us, so getting some rest will have a higher priority than the desire to get work done. Taking a siesta (whilst telling your worries to go packing) seems like a very smart idea to me as does doing anything that involves repairing, returning or renewing something.

If you do happen to still be working this month then please, please, please try to avoid signing any legal contracts and this includes anyone hoping to buy a house as well. There are much better bargains to be had in September and if you hold off for another month before signing, you’ll be glad you did. Even if you’re absolutely sure that the contract you’re about to sign is a good one, you’d be wise to go back over it with a friend for a second opinion. When Mercury is retrograde, problems have a sneaky habit of slipping past us the first time and we often end up having to redo the contracts later. Don’t forget also, that this is a terrible time to be buying new appliances or computers. Again, if you can hold off until September, you’ll be saving yourself a few headaches later.

Sadly, I can’t help feeling that many signs – Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Aquarius and Pisces – will feel held back by something rather than relaxed at this time, and will be just trying to grin and bear it. The desire to reach September when some of the energy blocks will be released will only increase for them as the month progresses.

If that sounds like you, then try to take a philosophical approach this month and allow things to be the way they seem to want to be. Whilst this month isn’t bringing a lot of good news, it’s not bringing a lot of bad news either. So think “cup half full”, not “cup half empty” and you’ll make yourself much happier!

IN OTHER ASTRO NEWS – Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune are also retrograde causing no end of mixed messages and strange emotions for Aries, Taurus, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Aquarius and Pisces. The advice I’m afraid stays the same. Let go of your expectations and relax. Perhaps there is something to be learnt here?

Chapter 2: ARIES

(21st March to 20th April)

If all is not going to plan at work or with your fitness schedule, try not to get too frustrated. It’s just the way things seem to be this month. Instead, focus your energy into areas of life that are working out for you and that includes anything to do with your home and family. If you’re trying to sell your house or apartment right now then put some energy into reorganizing the furniture or having a big clear-out so that the house looks at its best. That’s because this month is all about catching up with the jobs that we normally try to put off. So if you need to repair that dripping tap or repaint that wooden table then get to it!

Chapter 3: TAURUS

(21st April to 21st May)

As Jupiter turns retrograde in your own sign, this month may well feel a little anti-climatical. You’ve been having so much fun the last month or two, really seeing your life start to expand, that this sudden lull in astro activity will feel decidedly awkward and strange for you. Fear not though Taurus, this is not the end of all the good astro-vibes, just a temporary period of quiet. Jupiter will continue to remain retrograde until December but thankfully, some of the other planets who are also contributing to the astro-vacation, will be back to their normal bouncy self by the end of the month. So rather than try to conquer the world or break a new record, stick to the smaller boring things of life. Afterall, perhaps it’s not just the planets that need a break. Perhaps you need to get back some inner balance too.

Chapter 4: GEMINI

(22nd May to 21st June)

You should be feeling pretty good right about now, even if the feeling is being hampered by your ruling planet, Mercury, being retrograde. Certainly, last month should have rejuvenated your spirits and if you were tired or lagging behind in June, I imagine you caught up with your forty winks in July. Now this month, focus all your energy into bringing in the $$$ because that’s where you’re most likely to be successful. But take care not to sign any new contracts – particularly anything that is significant or important to you. As Mercury is retrograde, it would be much better to wait until September before you sign on the dotted line if you hope to avoid delays or problems further down the line. However, this also happens to be a great month to remind a partner or loved one just how happy you are that they are in your life. So if working or earning money feels like the last thing you want to do right now, then why not go and spend some quality time with someone you love? I’m sure they deserve it!

Chapter 5: CANCER

(22nd June to 23rd July)

Just as everyone else is calming down and thinking about summer vacation, life for you seems to be getting busier and busier! Perhaps it’s just your social life that is keeping you so busy on your toes but even so, there really is little sign that you’re going to get much of a rest this month. Thankfully, you should be feeling in pretty good spirits about it all and certainly your health has never been better! Carry on doing what you’re doing and you’ll have a fun and enjoyable month, but take care to avoid writing any emails that could be misunderstood or buying any new electrical appliances (including a new computer). That’s because Mercury is going retrograde in the area of your chart to do with daily communications so any technical hic-cups you face (whilst not all that serious), will cause you no end of headaches trying to get them resolved. Therefore, back-up your computer or files now before the problems start!

Chapter 6: LEO

(24th July to 23rd August)

Make the most of this pleasant month by inviting friends over for dinner or spending time doing the things that you really like to do. If that involves shopping, sport or doing something creative, so much the better! As you continue to enjoy having Venus in your sign, this is also a good moment to be catching up with people you haven’t seen in a while. If you’ve been a bit slack in keeping up with old friends then you really need to bring this relationship back into balance. This month is all about slowing down and reassessing where we are in life compared to where we’d like to be. Take some time to reflect on whether you’re still on the path you’d most like to follow and if not, figure out what you need to do to make changes for the better. There’s a lot of supportive astro energy around you now so enjoy!

Chapter 7: VIRGO

(24th August to 23rd September)

A new beginning awaits. As a new moon in your own sign hits town and Venus decides to join in on the party, you can be sure that small but positive changes are afoot. You might not see those changes initially, but gradually life is going to feel better and better for you and certainly more calm. A fresh start, either in a relationship or with a disgruntled colleague at work, could also be on the cards as you start to see the situation from a different perspective and finally have a better idea about how to resolve the problems. The only downside to this month is the fact that your ruling planet, Mercury, is retrograde. This means his energy is weaker than normal and so you may be more prone to get caught out by a silly misunderstanding. Realise that this is all it is…a misunderstanding…and let it go. It’s probably not worth fighting over.

Chapter 8: LIBRA

(24th September to 23rd October)

There’s something you’ve overlooked or missed. This month as Neptune back tracks into fellow air sign Aquarius, you may find yourself going over old ground on a subject you hoped had been resolved a while ago. This may well have something to do with your career or social status because as Mars moves into this sector of your chart, you’re going to find yourself busier and busier with matters of this type. Have you been following a traditional path rather than allowing yourself to express the more creative side to your personality? If so, changing your ways, and allowing yourself to “think outside of the box” will be the key to moving forward successfully. Don’t be afraid to say “goodbye” to an earlier chapter of your life either. In order to find fresh ground we have to relinquish those things that no longer best serve us. Could an attachment to a now out-dated point of view be what has been holding you back?

Chapter 9: SCORPIO

(24th October to 22nd November)

There is a sense of relief this month. Finally, you can let go of the tension that surrounded you during June and July. It’s not that anything dramatically changes…it’s just that you now feel able to express the emotions that you have been holding onto tightly inside. By letting them go, you feel freer and lighter and this enables you to raise your horizon to the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the rest of the year. At home, you feel a certain confusion and back pedaling, as if you’re repeating a path you thought you had finished, but outside of family issues, you are busy planning and dreaming of changes you intend to bring into your life. It’s good to do this as these dreams and plans will be a source of strength for you and will be your guide at times when you’re no longer sure if you’re doing the right thing.

Chapter 10: SAGITTARIUS

(23rd November to 22nd December)

Tie up loose ends and make sure you’ve got as much organized as you can. This month, (unlike the other star signs) you’re going to be busy, busy, busy! Particularly if you don’t want to leave yourself open to problems in September. Your ruling planet Jupiter is taking a holiday at the end of the month and when he does, life will not run as smoothly for you as it is now. This is especially the case in relation to your job or your health. Don’t misunderstand me, it’s not that anything bad will happen (far from it), it’s just that right now the cosmos is actively working to help you achieve what you want to achieve, whereas in September it’s all going to take a lot more work on your part. So if you’ve been meaning to lose a few inches off your waistline, or clear out that intray, then get to it! This is the time to be focused, driven and above all…busy!

Chapter 11: CAPRICORN

(23rd December to 20th January)

Eeks! As Mars moves into your relationships sector and kicks up a storm with powerful Pluto, you’re going to need to take care you don’t say the wrong thing around a lover, relative or business partner. On the one hand, this could be a very passionate, dramatic month where lots of exciting sexual energy transforms even the most mundane relationship into something that sizzles. Yet, on the other hand, irritable tempers and snappy comments could result, and a situation where you are accused of being overly controlling or bullying could be on the cards. Things will be at their worst from the 9th through to the 16th and from then on will calm down. If you find yourself being drawn into an argument, remember that the best action right now is to take a step back if you can. Any issues can be talked through in a much calmer manner by the end of the month.

Chapter 12: AQUARIUS

(21st January to 19th February)

Hang in there Aquarius. August is never your best time because the sun, the energy giver, is at the furthest point astrologically from your sign. And as Neptune returns temporarily to your sign, this month is lining up to be no different. Think back to last year and any issues that you may have felt in relation to your sense of identity. Did you feel under pressure to change in some way, or did you simply feel a little lost, or easily pushed around by others? These are issues that are going to come up again now but thankfully, in a much weakened form and not for very long! You can look forward to Neptune leaving your sign (for good this time!) in February 2012 and he’s not going to return again during your lifetime.

Chapter 13: PISCES

(20th February to 20th March)

Since April, you’ve not been having the easiest time of things as a slight fog descended over you. It’s not that life was specifically bad (although it’s had its moments!) or that you were depressed, it’s just that you felt like you were never quite on top form and life became as much about coping as it did about living. Well, there’s some good news Pisces! This month, Neptune takes a break from hounding your sign and as he does so you should find your energy levels rise and your sense of joy about life return. There’s lots to look forward to in regard to a close relationship so whether you’re committed or single, put your dating hat back on…there’s some romance to be had!! Focus on having fun this month, whether that involves candlelit dinners or hiking in the mountains, because it’s by doing this that you will recharge your batteries and finally return to your more usual happy form.
