Frightful business

On a dark winters night. Poor Little Susan court a Fright. Not a cold or a sniffle but a creature so very little, its house could fit under a thistle. But no less deadly was this Fright, than that of a vampires bite.

It may have been small but I promise you all. It could kill anything at all. Enough with this rime, let’s stop wasting time and see what Susan really did find.

Having played in the garden all morning Susan found something, under a small yellow flower. It was the tiny home of a Fright. Frights have been causing death and destruction since the beginning of time. In roman days they would bring down buildings and set fire to people and their farms. Roomer has it they caused the great plague of 1666, and that’s not to mention all the trouble and horror they caused back in 42. Most recently they have been eating the wings off planes before snickering and watching them, tumble from the sky as the poor holiday makers screeched to a squishy end. They do this with their very, very, sharp and nasty teeth. In fact, get enough Frights together and I don’t think even an army of fairies could ever stop them.

Susan knew nothing about Frights. After all, who tells poor little children about such horrible things? She scooped the house into a jar and skipped upstairs to her room. Then when night finally fell, Susan placed the jar on her bed side table, kissed her Mother good night and fell gently to sleep.

The Fright snickered in the darkness – It crawled out of its home and bared its wickedly sharp teeth with a menacing smile. The Fright made quick work of the glass jar. Eating itself a small hole on the side and pouncing out like a cat. The sawing sound of the glass as it met the Frights teeth would have woken Susan if it had not been for her mother watching the television down stairs. Her mother switched off the television and headed through the down stairs hallway to make a glass of milk.

Still now – in the dark of Susan’s room. The Fright scrambled forward and jumped onto Susan’s forehead. It licked its lips and clawed its hands. This would be the last of Susan. She had to wake up soon. The Fright crept down to Susan’s nose and was ready to take its first bite. Susan’s Mum was coming up the stairs, but to late the Fright was already there. Susan’s head turned to her side as she whistled a snore. The Fright fell and landed on Susan’s pillow. It jumped straight back up opened its jaws and went for the kill.

Just at that moment, Susan’s Mum opened her door. In flooded the hall light and burst onto Susan’s eyes waking her up in the nick of time. The Fright was no more, as long as there was light. Susan squeezed her eyes closed and went peacefully back to sleep. Her mother being wise decided to leave the door just ajar that night, in case what Susan court was really a Fright. Such a pity she didn’t leave the milk by her bedside too.

Facts about Frights

They don’t like bright light, milk always kills them and fairies really hate them.
