A WALK IN THE WOODS

The old woman woke early on the morning of the thirteenth and lay gazing at the rays of sunlight that filtered through the window. Lying in bed, she felt comfortable and warm. Perhaps today she would walk in the woods alone. She felt well this morning, better than she had in months. She felt like she could run through the woods.

The thought excited her. She sat up in bed, pulling the covers to her face to stifle a giggle. She did not want to wake Gertrude.

She slipped out of bed and began to dress. I must wear warm clothes, she thought, so I will not get sick again.

She moved to the oak chest. Opening it, she selected a white, linen underdress and a heavy green wool skirt. For the top, she picked a grey shirt with matching sweater.
