FX - a very faint buzz is heard
Novak: All agreed. One thing, you need to re-check the windscreen for smearing. Over.
Thompson: Nothing. All good. Set to go. Over.
Novak: Agreed. Arm. Affirmative. Over.
Thompson: Armed. Ready. Over.
Novak: Thompson careful, there is one hostile about to pass the gate. Stop. Wait at the rear of the vehicle. (slight pause) OK. Use the gate directly in front of the car. Unlocking…(FX: silent pause then light click is heard) now. Go! Over.
Thompson: Leaving enclosure, advise. Over.
Novak: Left, keep walking 100 metres; take the next right at Montague St. pass the old Wood Green Underground. Next to it is a disused florists, wait in the door-well, pick up approximately 2 minutes from arrival. Out.

Newsreader: The Islamic Scholar Dr Aalim Yusuf was killed early this morning in a directional bomb blast within Sector 1; we believe the bomb was detonated within his parked vehicle outside his home. The Police have stated that only Dr Yusuf was killed in the explosion. His wife and four children who were accompanying him to his mosque for morning prayers were unhurt. In a log call to our newsdesk British Defence has claimed responsibility, and issued this warning
FX: slight change of audio quality to represent re-broadcast audio
Man Speaking: We of British Defence will continue our war on the establishment of de facto Islamic city states within the United Kingdom. If you think the building of a wall around your Londonstan will stop us, you are very, very mistaken. We will tear down your wall, we will burn down your mosques, we will kill you, all of you unless you leave. You have two choices: leave, or stay and die.
Newsreader: A spokesman for `the Alliance` said that were deeply disturbed by the death of Dr Yusuf and by the escalation in violence that British Defence had been responsible for over the last five years, and that they would do all they could to track down these killers. They added that the North London Sector 1 Wall had not been breached. On a direct news post to us Islamweb`s Tariq Khan stated that this killing has once again shown state collusion in the murder of leading Islamic intellectuals and that the wall was ineffectual in keeping assailants out but much better at keeping Muslims in. Also it claimed that the technology used by British Defence was far beyond the buying power of the group and that directional bomb technology, that is, the use of a micro explosive that melds to any surface and has pinpoint accuracy, is only available to the UK Alliance government; thus indicating direct state involvement. A government spokesperson has said that the claims are ludicrous and seem to be emanating from the Islamic Defence League who are also well known to have disliked Dr Yusuf`s stance. We will bring you more on this story when police logs have been cleared by the authorities.

Novak: Minister we are secure you can speak freely. I hope you’re happy with events as they stand?
Minister: More than happy. We wish to congratulate you on your work and also on your results. But now we need them on the streets. Right now I’m on the way to a meeting of the top line. We’re ready; we have the military with us and apart from that imbecilic liberal PM we have everyone who counts. Within four weeks we’ll introduce a military government and martial law, at that point we’ll demand that all citizens in Sectors 1 to 4 either renounce Islam or face expulsion.
Novak: I really hope the Anglo population is ready Minister; perhaps we could back up this action with several more.
Minister: That won’t be necessary. They are at their tipping point. What we need is for them to react and for us to react: understand? This must be an action that will shake the people to the core. Not a store bombing, or school explosion, something that hits at the people at their very sense of history of who they are. We have agreed that no one at the very highest level of service, absolutely no one has been discounted as a target. It is truly regrettable it has come to this but the last five years of attacks and counter attacks have readied the people for true military stability. Now we need to end it and finally be rid of these, these interlopers. We feel that a Royal target would be the most appropriate response to the Yusuf assassination for the IDL. And though it is a very sad day for me to talk of regicide it is a necessary step in the re-creation of our nation. Do you understand me?
Novak: Perfectly Minister, am I to understand that this has been agreed upon by a majority of `the Council?`
Minister: It’s been argued over for many months but now we can see no other way. The King is an old man and his health is not as it was. He will die but for his country. You must understand we have not taken this decision lightly. The bombings, the killings of women and children, the executions have all been necessary. We can see that we are almost at our goal of a Muslim free United Kingdom, something never achieved in Europe since the days of Isabella and Ferdinand. This is for the future of our country. Without this sacrifice within twenty years there will be no United Kingdom just a state in a perpetual state of civil struggle. It has to be done. We know this may be difficult for you and your men. The person you entrust with this task must be someone who will do his duty and take his knowledge to the grave. I know you have such a man, but even for him this might be a request he cannot meet?
Novak: Minister: Thompson is my best man. His duty to his country far outweighs his duty to his King. A King can die to save a country but a country cannot be allowed to die so that a King may live.
Minister: Then we are agreed. I will send you the affirmation document; use these codes, please take note: encryption Kilo, Whiskey, X Ray 200, again, Kilo Whiskey, X Ray 200. The order is signed by all twelve of the new Military Council of the United Kingdom. Only you and only you outside of the Council will know where the initial order has come from.
Novak: Sir. I am honoured to serve my country and fully understand the action that we must take. What will be the sequence?
Minister: Following the action we will wait two days and then the Army will be put on the streets with a decree of marital law signed by the new Ruling Council of the New United Kingdom. At this point the Alliance will cease to exist. For most politicos it won’t be a shock but for others undoubtedly it will be. The military will take control and all Alliance members who do come over will be put away where the public will quickly forget about them. Figures such as Jenkins will need to be eradicated, but not too quickly, his respect value is still high, we need to tarnish him first. Once we have created order on the streets we will then set about the mass deportation. Exodus Centres will be set up in all 4 Sectors. We’ve already got the agreement in place with the Saudis and now Iran and Iraq are just sand again, there won’t be any major problems. The USA dare not intervene as it looks quite likely they will follow our, and the Dutch, example very soon. As for the Chinese: they only care about who will buy their products and as long as we go on doing that everything will be fine. So to recap; I need your action within three weeks and the sequence will then follow. Any questions?
Novak: Sir, the Army can be counted on 100%. You know that there have been some problems with the politicisation of newer recruits.
Minister: I understand, and yes there will be pockets of resistance, but these will be dealt with swiftly. Our agents in the ranks have already compiled lists of recruits and officers who may be a threat to us, a minor threat that is, as the majority of the Forces are ready to stabilise the country and can be counted on to do their duty. Since the Iranian massacres the Forces have hardened their attitude considerably. The council has every faith in them and when the time comes they will be ready. We have begun to pull units back from Iran and Somalia in readiness. These men are battle hardened and Muslim weary. We will use those who we feel will respond the most brutally and without question to the task they are to be given. The clearance of the Sectors should take around 4 to 6 months in total. We estimate since the expulsions there are now around 4 million Muslims there. Essentially a million a month and then, and then the Middle East and its peoples can return to how they were one thousand years ago. We no longer want or need them.
Novak: And the Police?
Minister: Slightly trickier, but not insurmountable. Since there are no longer any Muslims on the force our problems are only with those `liberals` who support the likes of the PM. However, agents feel they have already identified all those that will be a major threat. Following the imposition of martial law the Police will put under the control of `the Council,` initially they will have to sign an act of allegiance to `the Council` and this will sort the main supporters from those who will not need, or want in the future. However, there will be a need for a force to take care of order in the cities, but rioting and other anti state acts will be controlled by the Army. We estimate that we will lose approximately 2 million Brits, 1M as causalities and summary executions and the other 1M as emigrants. In total we will lose 6 to 7M of our total population and come back down to 60M. The expulsions of the 30s have helped but this last step will ensure our country’s survival.
Novak: And what is your timeframe Sir from the initial act?
Minister: Upon completion of the act the IDL will issue a film log taking responsibility for the action. Our team have begun the montage. We will then call for the Muslim authorities to hand over all members of the IDL who we know are in their midst. When they do not comply, as they will not, we will use our members in `the Alliance` to call for direct military action to enter the Sectors and take the necessary action. At this point we feel that public unrest will be growing and that British Defence, with our help, will be putting its men on the street and begin to try and enter the Sectors. There will be short firefights and rioting and these will quickly escalate to political killings and random murders. Then when it will appear that the rule of law has fallen, then the military will act decisively. The Coup will initially be peaceful. We will arrest Jenkins and his followers and at a later date most will be executed. Martial Law will be imposed. We will get all British Defence off the streets and then we shall announce the enforced repatriation plan of all Muslims to Badun. Our Council will issue a proclamation of intent. All Muslims will leave the shores of the United Kingdom within the next 4 to 6 months. Those who wish to renounce their faith can do so, but for two generations they and their offspring will be barred from all public service. Those who do not voluntarily attend a relocation centre will be forcibly removed from their homes and sent to a secure repatriation centre for processing. We feel that the firefights and bombings that the IDL will attempt will have little effect on our overall goal. For the last five years they have herded themselves into the Sectors; thus making our job a hell of a lot easier. We have them exactly where we want them. It’s taken a long time but finally we can do what we have wanted to do for so long.
Novak: Very well Minister. I will outline a plan within the next three days and report back to you.

Novak: Thompson we need an act, do you think you can enable a major act?
Thompson: Of what degree Sir?
Novak: It is of the very highest level. We need them to react. Now their leading conciliatory voice is gone, we need their rabble to be heard, We need the British people to finally step from dislike and contempt level to hate level, to pure raw hatred. Five years of violence have readied them. It is distasteful it has come to this, but it has, and now we must not let our country down. I know I can trust in you on this point Thompson so I need an event that will tip the scales, we need anarchy and from that point we will have peace.
Thompson: Who is the proposed target Sir?
Novak: The King
Thompson: (FX: slight pause of reflection) Understood Sir.
Novak: Thompson this has to be done. You cannot refuse.
Thompson: Understood.
Novak: Very well. I hope you also understand that you will be making history. Although your role will never be known, you will reshape our country and make it the proud place it once was.
Thompson: How long Sir?
Novak: We have three days to outline a plan and three weeks for the action.
Thompson: Am I right that you already have a plan Sir?
Novak: As usual Thompson you are with me. (FX: slight pause) The King is currently in Saudi putting the final touches to the repatriation plan. We need the people to demand this plan with their hearts and minds. In order for this, I feel we should act upon his return when his standing is highest with the people.
Thompson: Do we have a second target in the same act Sir?
Novak: No. You are to kill the King only. If you are unsuccessful we will detonate the hospital bombing plan, it is still primed and in place. But this will be unnecessary if you are successful.
Thompson: Who will take responsibility Sir?
Novak: The IDL
Thompson: So I’ll need a Chinese KK as it’s their weapon of choice. So a long distance head shot with a KK?
Novak: Agreed. We can get you within the target area and we can get you out. However, should you be approached you must abort the operation and eradicate all those who have seen you.
Thompson: Understood.
Novak: Of course Thompson there is also a risk that you will be killed, which would not directly be a problem for us, but if you were captured we would expect you to take the option, as if you did not, for sure you would not last the hour, and as you are well aware this is not an option for your remaining family members would pay the price.
Thompson: Sir. I never have expected, or will expect to do anything else.

Newsreader:
Now we’re going over to the King’s arrival back at the palace with his family. His trip to Saudi Arabia has been seen by many as a victory for a pragmatic rapprochement with the Islamic world. However, his help in the brokering of a repatriation plan for European Muslims to the newly formed state of Badun has been criticised by one Alliance Minister, who wished not to be named, as meddling in the affairs of state. Oh! We can see the official Rolls Royce entering into view now.
FX: slight tone change to signify telecommunication
Thompson: Target sighted Sir. Final clearance please. Over.
Novak: Cleared. Affirmative I repeat Affirmative. Over
Thompson: Understood. Copy. Over
Newsreader: First out of the car is the Queen, with the two Princesses off to her left. The Queen is wearing a beautiful white Frasca linen bodysuit, which I’m sure will be in the stores later this afternoon. It has a look of the creations often worn by the actresses of the mid 20th century. Her daughters are quite difficult to see as they are flanked by at least six heavily armed Palace Guards. But they seem to be wearing very similar suits to their mother, the young Queen, it has been said, has rejuvenated the fashion sense of women worldwide and from this outfit we can see why. And now we can see His Highness with his customary walking stick as he waves to the crowds. The King is now shaking hands with the vetted visitors. One woman has passed something to the King that his bodyguard has deftly taken it. He’s sharing a joke with one older lady who appears to be attempting to give the King a peck on the cheek. Now he’s…(FX: slight pause) oh it seems the King has taken a stumble! No wait, he’s on one knee and his bodyguard is trying to lift him up, he’s now being surrounded by several Palace Guards with guns drawn. It looks like the king is on the ground. He’s not moving. Oh my God! He’s not moving and it looks like blood is coming from the back of his head, there’s a pool of blood around the King. The Guards are waving everyone away, a car has pulled up next to the King, I can’t see him, I can’t see him. The car is speeding away with several outriders. The Queen and Princesses have been taken away in the Rolls but not with the King, they’re heading into the Palace. We…..

Newsreader: We are now going over to Number 10 Downing Street for an official announcement by Prime Minister Jenkins.
FX:..noise of crowd shouting anti Muslim slogans, and counter political chanting heard in the very background
PM Jenkins: Good Evening. Today is the saddest day of my tenure as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. With the death of the King earlier this morning we have now entered a dark chapter in the history of this great country. My heart goes out to the Royal Family and I cannot in words convey what I feel about the death of my King, a man who was also both a friend and an inspiration. The pain, sadness, fury and the anger that we feel right now must not be allowed to mask our humanity. I ask all of our people to not take the law into their own arms and to uphold the values of this land. Believe me those responsible for this crime against us as a people will pay dearly. The King is dead but our country still lives and will always live. Thank you.

Novak: Good Evening Minister, we are free to talk.
Minister: So it’s done. I’d never thought I’d be pleased for such a day to have come, but now we will see the true beginning of our dream. Necessary step, necessary step, had to be done.
Novak: Exactly Sir.
Minister: And your man? Alive?
Novak: Now in a safe house.
Minister: Do we need to clean up?
Novak: No Sir. We will need him again very soon and he’s our very best.
Minister: Very well, I will defer to your better judgement on this matter. And the response?
Novak: BD is now out in force in Manchester and London, there have been reports of attempts to enter the Sectors but nothing too serious just yet. The mood needs to be just a little uglier. Killings have been reported but not in the hundreds. We have made many more small arms available to BD and the Leftists will be quickly outnumbered and outgunned on the streets. We’ve told the Commissioners on our side to pull their men back and let BD cause a little mayhem. My prediction is that by midnight, the United Kingdom that we have known for the last twenty years will began to cease to exist.

FX: video screen announcement 3 beeps
Newsreader: The rioting that began in Manchester earlier today shows no sign of abating and the violence in London and Birmingham appears to be escalating. There have been several confirmed reports of deaths and many unconfirmed reports of deaths and attacks on property. Reporters on the ground have seen many young men wearing BD armbands who have been heavily involved in acts of aggression of looting and burning cars and property. Reporters are currently working undercover as BD has threatened all press members and destroyed TV cameras and digilogging equipment. It seems that though the police are taking up posts in numbers outside all Sector walls; government offices and TV and radio stations, they have not been evident in mass numbers in around the rioting itself. This has led to accusations of state involvement in, what one Alliance politician, has called an orchestration of state led violence. A spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s office has called this ridiculous and added that control of the streets is now the number one priority of the Government….Sorry, I’m getting a report that there has been an explosion at a checkpoint into Sector 1…initial reports say casualties are very high. It’s not sure whether the bombers were attempting to get into the Sector or to escape. Many of the casualties are Police who have been drafted in to stop rioters from entering the Sector.
FX: electronic white noise and different news reports fading in and out with worsening reports of deaths, looting and rioting.
Newsreader: Day 2 of the violent protests in the aftermath of the King’s death have resulted in the Police calling in Military reinforcements to protect property and citizens. In one show of strength water cannons were used on student demonstrators staging a counter demonstration against a large group of British Defence supporters in Coventry. General George Wood has been appointed by a Special Alliance Emergency Committee as head of the combined Police and Military force. The general has issued a declaration stating and I quote: `all citizens are to remain indoors after 7pm and no group of over 5 people will be allowed to gather at any time. Any person or persons not adhering to this declaration will be arrested under the special powers granted to us at this time of national crisis.` More breaking news, there have been reports of several large explosions around all 4 sectors. The army has been moved into position on the streets and a 7pm to 7am curfew has been put in place. General Wood has called on all 4 sectors to hand over anyone involved in IDL activity. This request has been rejected by the 4 sector councils as impossible as they do not know who is in the IDL or how to identify them. The General has responded by stating that force will be used within the sectors if the suspects are not held within 24 hours. He also added that UK Intel has given the council scores of names of people who it wants to interview, and their response has been most unhelpful….I’m sorry, what…? They’re what?

Minister: Yes Prime Minister it appears that a full battle battalion has taken over Broadcasting House, all broadcasts have been shut down. I’m trying to get through to who is in charge, but presently I don’t know who that is.
Prime Minister: You don’t, you don’t bloody well know who has seized control of the bloody BBC? What the hell is going on? I thought the military knew full well that we keep up, to some degree, the image of a democracy. What the hell has happened here.
Minister: Sir, we have reason to believe that a number of Generals with considerable backing in the country and from their men are attempting to stage a Coup d'état
Prime Minister: A Coup d'état? Are you bloody well joking man? The United Kingdom is not some half arsed third world state. We do not have Coup d'états. We have anarchy, protests, killings, assassinations, but we dot have Coup d'états. So who is loyal? Did you hear me? Who is loyal? We cannot have the army parking tanks in front of Broadcasting House.
Minister: At the moment we feel it is in the balance.
Prime Minister: In the balance? What are you saying to me here? Are you really saying that this might be more than a bunch of spoilt generals attempting to show their contempt for us, for you and I? For democracy?
Minister: Many of those involved say that the idea of democracy died over 20 years ago when we instigated the first deportations. But of course for them this was a good thing.
Prime Minister: So now they want to be at the funeral too. Correct?
Minister: At present Sir we really do not know whom you can count on. We also feel that it would be better for you to move to the safe location. Our intelligence has strong suspicions that the Generals may attempt to abduct you.
Prime Minister: Yes. The Intelligence, where the hell have they been? We have a dead King, a country on fire, tanks on the streets. Where was their `intelligence`?
Minister: Intel was swamped by chatter but as you know this has been at a high level ever since the voluntary repatriation plan was aired, over 3 years ago.
Prime Minister: But the King, we’re talking about the King. Are we sure this is the work of the IDL?
Minister: We have received a coded data log, stating that the IDL were responsible for the action.
Prime Minister: No other takers?
Minister: Many Sir, but none with the verifiable nature of the IDL. They gave a description of the angle of shot and a nano bullet identifier serial no. It was the IDL. No doubt.
Prime Minister: What have I missed here? The IDL whose dream is a return to the East kill a King and send a country into hatred of the remaining Muslims here. I, I don’t see it. Why?
Minister: Perhaps there is some long term goal, but right now a more pressing matter is order and your safety. I’ll send a squad of trusted Intel agents to move you.
Prime Minister: My Wife and son?
Minister: They will join you at the location. When we are there we can work out just who is loyal and how we can win back the trust of the people.
Prime Minister: Agreed. Get the cabinet together and let’s do this now, at once.
Minister: Sir. You should know that four of your cabinet have resigned and it is my belief that they are not to be relied upon.
Prime Minister: So we already have scavengers at the table waiting to see what scraps might come their way? And you? Where do you stand.
Minister: I am and always will be behind you sir.
Prime Minister: I know that…I’m sorry, I just needed to hear you…
Minister: ….to hear me say it.

Minister: Is the group ready?
Novak: Yes. The PM will be taken to the location. An action will be taken during the journey. He will believe he and his family have safe passage.
Minister: Get it done.

Prime Minister: Andrea listen to me, listen woman! A car will arrive for you very shortly, the name of the officer is Colonel Thompson, I think you’ll know him by sight but check and re check his ID, he’ll use the code `Brighton`. He and a small group will bring you down to the country. Get ready now. Now! Listen to me, you don’t have a lot of time, we don’t know who is loyal and who is not. Tell Paul I love him and that we’ll all be together very soon. Yes I love you too, but now get moving they’ll be there in 30 mins. Hold on are you watching the TV? Newsreader: This is an urgent announcement by the Council of the New United Kingdom… We the Council of the New United Kingdom declare that in the interests of the stability and safety of the people of this great country a Military Ruling Body has been appointed to govern the NUK. In the absence of order, tyranny has taken over the streets. This cannot continue. We have no reason to do what we are doing other than for a love of our country. The Prime Minister has been relieved of his post and Parliament has been suspended. We the MRB will be directly responsible for the future of this country and in order to do this we have several decrees. Please listen carefully. Decree 1: no person is to be outdoors between 7pm and 7am without permission from the MRB. Troops have the power to use deadly force and/or incapacitating violence against anyone it finds on the streets. All disobeying this decree will either be arrested or shot. Decree 2: all Muslims in Sectors 1,2, 3 and 4 are to be deported to the new state of Badun. Therefore, all inhabitants of S1, 2, 3 and 4 are to register themselves with the NUK Bureau of Citizenship for de-citizenship. Any Muslim who wishes to stay in the NUK must renounce his/her religion and will be allowed to stay; if found practising worship of Islam she or he will be deported without recourse to any inquiry. We feel that only with the deportation of the remaining Muslims in the NUK will our country be at peace. However, there are other forces that also wish to de-stabilise our country and in order to control this Decree 3 is that all political parties are now outlawed until further notice. We have no argument with our citizens who want to work and obey the rule of law, but those who do not do this will be subject to assessment whilst in internment. We have no place in our society for those who believe in outdated ideas of the self as more important than the whole or in those who believe in a utopia of the left. We will give these people one week to leave our shores, for you know who you are, and then our final Decree will be: find our enemies. To this end we need the help of you, the people of the NUK, you must denounce those around you who could destabilise our great vision.

Minister: Sir as you can see over the last hour or so the situation has worsened.
Prime Minister: The situation has worsened! Jesus, you have such a skill for understatement. What the hell is going on? Who is in charge of this bunch of lunatics?
Minister: Wood is at the head of it and he seems to have pretty much everyone else with him. Here in London you have a lot of support but I really do feel that this is petering away even as we speak. Troops are on the streets. I have to say Sir that Wood has offered you safe passage to the coast. He wants you out of the country within 24 hours but needs your assurance that you will leave.
Prime Minister: I’m not sure if I understand this, is he bloody well threatening the elected Prime Minister of this country? I actually chose the bastard. I always was a good judge of character wasn’t I?
Minister: At the moment Sir they have the upper ground. They have 70 to 80 per cent of the Forces with them and upwards of 70 per cent of the Police.
Prime Minister: So what do you suggest? Just leave my country to the charge of a group of tin pot generals? All the money we pumped into them to keep them happy. Everything they wanted we gave them. I’m seen as a liberal, what a joke, a bloody liberal. Right this moment I wish I were a liberal so that I could at least be surprised by these bastards. I played into their hands and now like some tragi-comedy I’ve been offered safe passage to a country 30 miles from our coast that has a civil war raging. This is not the way, this is not the way. Our human face would have won in the end. What didn’t I give them? What?

Thank you for downloading this play and I hope you enjoyed it. Something about me: I grew up in Salford, close to Manchester, England. I never wanted the factory life on offer there and looked to music as my salvation from Trafford Park. To some degree my prayers were answered as in my 20s I was a professional musician. However, the life of a musician is a precarious one and after some years the bohemian life began to wear thin so I became an English teacher. I now live in the Czech Republic and to shorten the cold winters here I began to write children`s stories and also adult fiction and plays.
