An Angels Touch

By: Scott

Prelude

Where do I start? We all come from different backgrounds and everyone has a different story to tell. Well, mine is just another story but to me it holds a special place in my heart. I firmly believe that one person came into my life and left a bright shiny light in my heart that will never burn out. She is truly an angel

Chapter 1

It was Oct. 2002, about a year after the Sept 11 attacks on America. I was 18 years old. I was a wild one and most often was out and about smoking weed or finding myself getting into some sort of trouble. After high school, I attended the University of Akron and failed just about every class, so I decided it was time for a change and I was going to join the military.

The next day I was sitting in my recliner playing Xbox (halo, love that game) and I got a phone call from my buddy Rodney. He had set me up with a friend of his girlfriend. I was down to meet her and hang out but I told him I had to go to the recruiter so I couldn’t go. He somehow convinced me into going and skipping out on going to the recruiter.

Later that night I met up with Rodney and his girlfriend to go pick up Tiffany. She had to work late so we picked her up from work. Erica (Rodney’s girlfriend) went inside to get her, about 5 minutes later I see her emerge out of the darkness and behind her was the most beautiful woman I had ever laid eyes on. She had these blue eyes that seemed to light up the night. Her smile was breathtaking and to be honest, at that moment I was really glad to have skipped out on visiting the recruiter.

I was still in awe as she opened the door with her bubbly smile that made me grin. I tried to gather myself as she introduced herself with some sort of weird gracefulness that I could not comprehend but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Our conversation was as if we have been friends since we were children. We decided to go grab a bite to eat so we went to a restaurant that I used to work at that had amazing food. We sat down and the topic of conversation was farts. I have no idea how this became the topic but I was intrigued. The way tiffany carried herself was astonishing to me, nothing like I have ever seen before. She was very open and honest which to me is among the most rare and best qualities to find in a person. We laughed so much my face was sore. I felt a connection that I never thought I would feel.

I’m no player but I have dated my fair share of women and this one had 100% of my attention. After dinner, we went to Wal-mart to just walk around I guess. She was just yapping away so I decided to do a mock proposal just so I could get her to let me talk. I dropped to my knee in the middle of the isle and asked her to marry me, the look on her face is burned into my brain, she loved it and from that moment I knew there was something special.

Chapter 2

The next few weeks we talked almost every free moment we had. I had somewhat forgotten about joining the military and got a job detailing vehicles at a local truck accessories store. I was still young and I figured I had my whole life ahead of me. All I could think about half the time was finding a way to spend time with Tiffany. It wasn’t easy because she was working at a hair saloon and I worked full time and started going back to college. At least this time around I was passing my classes. Tiffany was a very positive person; she helped keep me on track when I get distracted.

The time we did get to share with each other was amazing. I had a lot of respect for her and I was passive on making any moves on her. I did not want to seem like some aggressive young guy who just wanted to get laid. Although she carried herself in a way that turned me on like no one else ever has, I tried to remain a gentleman. I can remember the first time we made love like it was an hour ago. She had came over after work one day and we were just laying around watching Harry Potter, which I love, and we started kissing and something overcame me and I could not hold back anymore.

Feeling her soft lips kissing me so passionately was too much to contain. I ran my fingers through her hair as we intensified our passionate kissing. She crawled on top of me and straddled me like I was a stallion. I ran my hands along her back and gently tickled her lower back. I undid her bra and removed her top and laid her down on the bed. I began kissing her on her neck and around her ears and I could tell that really turned her on. I made my way down to her beautiful breasts and began to tease her nipples with my tongue. She reached down and helped remove my pants and I returned the favor. She was extremely turned on, as was I. She got back on top as I teased her until neither one of us could take it anymore. I know it sounds cheesy but it was magical.

That was the first time we ever made love. It was the most amazing night in my life and it was amazing every single time we made love. There was so much passion with every kiss and touch. I knew I wanted to spend my life with her and die by her side.

Chapter 3

As time went on, life made things more difficult on us. She was a full time hair stylist and I was working full time and attending college to become a firefighter. I had EMT classes on Saturday for 8 hours so I did everything I could to make time to be with her. She had also bought a horse and was learning to ride, which helped keep her busy as well. So our time together was extremely limited but we made the best of it.

I had quit partying as hard as I used to because she helped give me direction in life. It was rare that we would go drink or anything, we were really laid back and just enjoyed spending time together and with friends. We were together for a few years at this point. We had out ups and downs just like everyone else but for the most part, we were great, and I wouldn’t have traded my life for anything.

Things don’t always work the way you want them to. I remember when things got hard. It was about when she turned 21 and wanted to start going out to the bars more often, which took time away from us. I guess it was selfish of me but she wanted “girl time” and I had gotten upset because our time was already limited. So we argued about it often but we maintained. I could see it started to go downhill when I started going out more with my friends. It got to a point where we decided to take a break from each other, which I later found out was the wrong move.

Our break was about a month long but we would still talk, just not on a daily basis. Well somewhere along the line, she met some guy at a bar who was smooth and cunning. I should have known this would happen since she was new to the whole bar scene and some guys just have good game. I understood it but I was also hurt by it. It took me some time to get over it but we worked at it and things got better.

Soon enough we were in love all over again and the bar was a thing of the past. I am not sure if I ever truly let it go which may have caused things to spiral out of control later on. When we got to that point I think we were both frustrated that we have been together for so long and yet we were still in the same spot we began. I was still detailing cars and we didn’t live together. Basically, we were not making progress towards a family. Something had to give sooner or later and it did.

We made the decision to walk away and just be friends. At the time it seemed right, but as time went on I feel that it was the worst mistake of my life. It hurt worse than anything I have ever been through. I had a hard time dealing with it. I started drinking a lot and falling off track. So in order to get my life back on track I ended up joining the Army and became an infantryman. I went to basic training for 14 weeks. She wrote me letters and kept in contact. After basic training, I got shipped out to Fort Lewis, Washington. One day she told me she met someone… that’s when I realized she was gone.

Epilogue

Time heals all wounds right? Well sometimes I beg to differ. She was an angel sent to me from God to show me how to love. She helped me become a man, eventually. Maybe the timing was off, maybe we were to young, or maybe I was too stubborn. Whatever it was, it is irrelevant now. The point in this story is that sometimes, someone will come into your life unexpectedly and change you inside forever. Whether it works out or not look at the big picture. She will forever be a part of me and I am forever grateful for the gift she gave me.
