Koki's Garden
Once a week, it was Koki's job to water the garden. Most of the time he enjoyed watering the plants, but today it was very hot, and he didn't really feel like doing it.

As Koki climbed up on his red char to turn on the tap, he paused. "l can water the garden tomorrow," Koki thought," it's too hot today."
Koki turned off the tap and marched back into the house.
"Have you finished watering the garden already?" Mindi called out.
"No," Koki replied, "I'm going to do it tomorrow."

The heat made Koki feel a little tired, so he curled up on a soft lounge chair and closed his eyes.
lt was not long before Koki was fast asleep. He started having a strange dream, where he was a flower, growing in the garden.

Koki enjoyed being a flower, but as he looked around at all the other plants growing under the bright sun, he began to feel a little thirsty. "Gosh its hot today," he thought, "l think I'll get myself a drink."
As Koki tried to move, he found he couldn‘t walk. "Oh dear, l forgot that flowers don‘t have legs!"

Koki was sure someone would soon come to give him water. He waited, and waited, but nobody came. Koki felt so thirsty, he started to cry. "Someone please help me," he called.

At this moment Koki woke up. He jumped up and checked to see if he had legs again. "I'm glad that was only a dream," he said as he wiggled his feet.
Koki was about to go back to sleep, when he remembered that he hadn‘t watered his garden.

He jumped from the chair and rushed to the door.
"What in the world is going on?" Mindi asked as Koki ran past her.
"l must go and water the garden." Koki barely paused to speak, as he rushed out the door.
"l thought you were doing it tomorrow," Mindi called, looking a little surprised.
Koki stopped and looked back at Mindi. "It's so hot today, those poor plants will be very thirsty."

Koki stayed outside for a long time, giving his plants plenty of water. lt was hard work and Koki was very hot, but It didn't matter. "After all," Koki, said to himself, "I can get myself a drink whenever l want."
