Virtual Dome Village

Bill Jones is an electronic Engineer from Santa Barbara, California and went on a fishing trip to Montana with his son and fell in love with Montana.

He was also fed up with the way our democracy was headed, controlled by the rich with corrupt elections in both parties due to no limit on campaign spending. He was also intrigued by the teachings of Professor Yunus of Bangladesh. See http://www.grameen.com/ So this is a fictional account of how a new town could be created for the future that would address some of these ills.

He had assets of 2 million so he started a social business that would be self sustaining and could last forever.

He bought a $200,000 dollar ranch of 20 acres outside Missoula Montana.

Then he bought some dome shelters http://www.deployablegeoshelters.com (He then furnished them all with a bogo mini solar flash light.)

None of this was a gift but along term loan

of 30 years at 5% interest which amounts to $25 dollars per month payments into a social business which the veterans own as championed by professor Yanus. for the land. and another $60 for the shelter. Domes can also be rented at a reasonable rate.

The millions of people now unemployed in the US should pay attention to the approaches to survival in this little e-book.

The biggest mistake for people just unemployed is to let what assets they may have disappear. Treasure everyone. If your house is in debt more than its worth let it go if possible after getting some legal advice and get some reasonable living quarters. Like joining this low cost geodome village in Montana or elsewhere.

As long as you have enough money to stay connected to the internet you can live anywhere in the world. You have to have shelter for yourself and your family, If you have one. It does not have to be expensive. It should cost you no more than 25% of your estimated income. Geodesticdomes range from $600 for a pyramid plastic tent for one for $3000 for a larger Dome. Even full blown houses. Domes can withstand hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, and even floods if equipped with a pontoon.

So Bill took his son on another fishing trip with his son and to visit his new property. He had hired a property manager and they had a few dome units up and a few tenants when he got there.

"How's it going?" he asked the manager, Tom.

"Well pretty good so far, a few of the neighbors came around and we explained we are starting a new village of Dome Homes".

They said," fine is this going to last?"

We said. "We hope so"

The problem now was to get reliable tenants

So far we had 3 local unemployed sign up and their three domes were up. We thought we would go and interview them and see what they wanted.

After several days they had an idea of what these 3 unemployed wanted. One was a jeweler hobbies and didn't like to deal with people but made fine silver jewelry, His name was Mike. The next guy was an extrovert and more the salesman type. He went by Sam and then there was Ralph, a dedicated Mac programmers we got

Sam selling Mike's jewelry door to door. Ralph was assigned to build us a web page. Part of the program was for all to have access to the Web through our WiFi net.

We had a meeting and ask them if we wanted to allow women who where unemployed to join the group. They said Yea that was a good idea because some of them had kids from a broken marriage and a woman could be a good baby sitter. So we advertised for some of them on the Web.

Then we went fishing and then home after checking with our caretaker Ken. We asked him about security and he said he would check with the Sheriff.

When they got home Bill started doing some long range planning for his new village. First he started to think about drilling a well to supply their own water. He envisioned a utility center to serve the whole group similar to RV rental facilities. A place to shower, do laundry etc. A source of energy like solar or natural gas. For Solar they wanted to explore putting flexible solar panels on the domes and contacted http://www.siliconsolar.com

He also started groups of common interest in programming new software in groups like iphone apps etc. These groups could go anywhere in world, take their domes along, rent some property and set them up in a day.

They could also go into a decaying big city center and rent some property in the heart of the city, like Detroit and set up a Dome center. This might act as a Hostel for low rent facilities for world travels and attract some new members who are tech savvy. We need young people who are sharp on software development. We can form groups of them that can innovate and solve problems of the local industries that don't have the trained staff to compete in the world economy of today.

When Bill got back to Santa Barbara he concentrated on getting a service center established in Montana and had a well dug and housed in a service dome. Plus he added a washer and dryer and a 2 private showers, one for men and one for women.

Also in his planning session with his son they began to explore idea of having special trailers designed with the plastics tent modules that would be streamlined and able to be wheeled in anywhere in world close to universities to offer low cost housing to talented students. Each village would have access to the internet and encourage student to collaborate in new innovations,

Since they both had been in the Caribbean they wondered if Dome villages would work by putting on beach where sand bags could be put over Domes to make them more resistant to hurricanes. So you can see from all these musings these units are cheap and flexible and portable tying in very nicely with the reset of living in the modern world. Also with the internet their is a chance that poverty could be eliminate for a better world. The additional concept that continuous online training for a lifetime could reeducate people for useful employment or starting their own businesses. See Lynda.com for an excellent group of training tutorials some 800 of them—http://www.lynda.com for only $25 per month

So now let's try and make the Montana experiment work first Bill set up a video conference link with his manager in Montana using Apple's Ichat and also with the iphone4 facetime

Next we contacted the state university and let them know about our project and suggest that students could find low cost housing in our village with internet access and an innovative environment.

I will end this little 99cent ebook now and feel that I have given you value after doing a lot of research on the internet and valuable links. If you let people use their own creativity and form organizations from the ground up they will survive rather than tell them what to do from the top down. With that in mind you can fill in the details. If you would like some more ideas let me know.
