A man of few words...

“He’s a man of few words”
eyes of judgement take me in
sympathetic stares looking for reasons
fake smile’s pass between us
they turn and carry on with small talk
i’ll either kill or love one of them later

for i am a man of many words
nil by mouth
all by hand
churn in my mind
beseeching me to be silent
compelling me to write

in the dead of night
just me and the dark
just me and hundreds alike
develop our imaginings
create alternate realities
exchanging what is for what could be

for now i’ll smile
listen through deaf ears
nod and shake intently
watch gestures and flirtations
while my partner describes me
“he’s a man of few words!”
