The Journal

By Stephen Moon

Chapter 1: 1972

Joe and his brother Tommy were playing in their backyard, when they found and old piece of paper. The paper said: My hut is on fire. The people are destroying our civilization. They came and took our land and destroyed our great Aztec culture.

After the boys showed the ripped paper to their father, he gasped and ran inside. This began the father’s search. He had read on another page of the same journal that the man had a great treasure. Their father had not known where, or when the man had lived. Their father, Bill, worked for a Museum in Washington, D.C., and The museum was going to get closed down in a few months. Unless Bill could find the treasure, of at least some important artifacts, Bill would lose his job, and they would have to move. So, Joe and Tommy went inside, and began to brainstorm ideas with their father.

A few days later, Bill, Joe, and Tommy got in their car to drive to the airport. While at the airport, Tommy (Who was 10 and thought everyone was a “Bad Guy”) noticed someone following them. His fourteen year-old brother, Joe, ignored him, because he assumed Tommy was just playing one of his games. But when the man kept following them, Bill got worried. When they landed in Mexico, the man was going to the same hotel as them. So, Joe, Bill, and Tommy, who called themselves the Modern Pioneers, went out looking at night, so they wouldn’t be seen. Finally, Bill’s flashlight beam hit something shiny and HUGE.

Chapter 2: The Chest

The Pioneers began walking towards the shiny shape. Joe realized it was a chest. The three boys set up a tent, and spent the night in the desert. At 5:30 AM, the pioneers were already at work. Bill and Joe got the 8-foot tall trunk (Which turned out to be a trunk-like metal box) on it’s side. Then Joe and Tommy opened the box with their crowbars. Inside was a small wooden box. When Joe reached for the box, a scorpion jumped out. Joe pulled his hand back just in time. Bill carefully removed, and opened the box. Inside was the largest diamond he ever saw, tons of gold, maps and journals, and all kinds of amazing artifacts.

Chapter 3: The Arrangement

Bill brought the gold and diamonds back to the museum, and the gold and diamonds were put on display. Bill’s father was given a week off, so he could arrange the papers. The maps were left by the invaders, and the writer of the journal collected them and put them in his trunk. The diamond and gold was given to him by his father, who was killed in the attacks. The journal was all about the years under attack. The museum eventually opened a huge exhibit on these journals and treasures. Based on what was told in the journal, the museum reconstructed the man’s hut. Bill became the head of the museum, and in 2005, Joe became head of the museum. In 2007, Tommy was leading a tour when he saw a familiar face in his group. It was the man who had followed them in Mexico. When they entered the journal exhibit Tommy saw the man leave the group, and walk toward the treasure…
