I am an elephant. You probably know that I’m the biggest land animal alive. But, did you know I am also the only mammal with four knees? My knees lock to help me sleep while standing up.
Yo soy un elefante. Quizás ya sepas que soy el animal viviente más grande de la tierra. Pero, ¿sabías que soy el único mamífero con cuatro rodillas? Mis rodillas no se doblan para ayudarme a dormir parado.
I am a pink flamingo. The crustaceans I eat give my feathers their pretty pink color.
Yo soy un flamingo rosa. Los pequeños crustáceos que como les dan a mis plumas su bonito color rosado.
I am a hippopotamus. I rule the river. I have a large mouth with great big teeth called tusks. Even the crocodiles stay away from me.
Soy un hipopótamo. Yo mando en el río. Tengo una boca grande con largos dientes llamados colmillos. Incluso los cocodrilos se alejan de mí.
I am an inguana. I use my long strong tail for protection.

I am a llama. I have two toes on each foot just like my camel cousins. I also have a warm wooly coat.

I’m a monkey. There are lots of different kinds of monkeys. I’m a howler monkey from the Amazon. I have a prehensile tail that helps me grab onto branches. My monkey cousins in Asia and Africa can’t use their tails like I can.

I am a nudibranch. I'm related to sea snails, but I don't have a shell. My bright colors are beautiful, but they also warn my enemies that I'm not good to eat.
Soy un nudibranquio. Soy de la misma familia que los caracoloes del mar, pero no tengo una concha. Mis colores brillantes son hermosos, pero también advierten a mis enemigos que no soy alimento para ellos.
I am a quetzal. My feathers are so beautiful that they made me the national bird of Guatemala. In fact, they even named their money after me.

I am a turtle. Turtles can live a very long time. I'm over 100 years old and still young.

I am a yak. I’m related to cows. But, I have a long wooly coat to keep me warm in my mountain habitat. Some yaks are domesticated and live with people who drink our milk and sometimes even ride us like horses.

I am a warthog, a wild member of the pig family. My name comes from the four large wart-like bumps on my head.

Abarca currently resides in Los Angeles County and works at
University of California Los Angeles extension. She has always
enjoyed art, painting, drawing and being creative. Five years ago,
she was asked by a close friend to be the Godmother to Rubilynn.
Wendy excitedly accepted. One of the many moments she cherishes with
Rubilynn has always been story time and creating impromptu stories
together. These creative moments with her have been a motivation to
her to pursue children's book writing and illustrating. This book is
her debut as an illustrator.
