Toast: as we all understand as pet owners the number one thing with a friend is routine. You love it for the practical reason; your pet loves it for routine. Your pet looks at that moment: the beginning of the day, the afternoon walk, etc. as a confirmation that you are still committed to the relationship. You see, unconditional love does have a price: the price of your commitment. You want to talk about monogamy – this is the true test. This insight came upon me after eating toast every morning with two beautiful “broken saddle”, lop rabbits, named Millicent and Retticent. After x-number of years living an urban life the simplicity and gentile effects of nature have taken their affect upon my soul.
I am almost at the point where I can understand “Watership Down”, “Charlotte’s Web” but “Alice in Wonderland”,... animals, unlike humans, don’t walk around with questions unanswered. They approach every issue head on and then, if it is wrong, run. Smart. And this is when the morning school bus goes by and I say to the girls: “The Bus is here girls, litter box” and they don’t do a thing. And that is the greatest philosophical dissertation I can come up with for the now.
The “Breakfast” consists, every morning, of toast – plain or seven grain – burnt and slathered in jam. Sometimes peanut butter (lower case so as to not promote any one peanut butter company over another even though Kraft (shameless plug) has a great, simple PB cookie recipe and Millicent loves it, Rettie tends to lean towards salt – just FYI for birthdays and Xmas!). So, no, let’s take this back a mile marker – sign post said 17 and now…16 – Hello, new text…no seque…
Consider your breakfast with a rabbit like the first date you ever had.
