INT. ANGELA’S CAR- TRANSIT STATION-PARKING LOT-MORNING
DAVID and ANGELA sitting in the car. Angela wipes the tears away from her face with the sleeve of her jacket.
ANGELA
(crying)
I thought that you said you would never hurt me David?
DAVID
I did, and I really don't want to hurt you Angela! I just feel that we need to take a break. You just got back from war, and I been back for what three weeks now? Being away from you really has given me the time to focus on playing Ball.
ANGELA
(angry)
Break? Thereís no such thing as taking a break in a relationship David. Why wont you just be man enough, and tell me that you don't want to be with me anymore? Iíve been off at war for the last year, and now I have to come home to this? If you don't want to be with me- just say it!
DAVID
But I do still want to be with you Angela. I just think that we really need a break to make sure that spending the rest of our lives together is what we both want. This is really hard I’ve seen you what once in the last ten months!
ANGELA
Thatís the stupidest thing that I’ve ever heard! You know what, Iím starting to believe that you never loved me, and that you never will. When I was over in Iraq all I could think about was coming home, and being with you, hoping that we could get married and start a family - all those things that you promised me.
DAVID
Come on Angela, don't say that! I love you, and I will always love you.
David tries to hug Angela.
ANGELA
Donít Touch me!
Angela grabs David cell phone and throws it into the back seat.
DAVID
Why you acting like this Angela?
ANGELA
Acting like what David? I’m angry! You just dumped me after I have given you seven years of my life. I was there for you when you needed me, I put up with your cheating, I had forgiven you after you cheated on me twice, but all of that, still wasn't enough for you! I gave you my all...I put my heart and everything else into this relationship, and for you to come along and just ended like it never meant anything to you- really hurts me. It hurts me more than being at war, being lonely, being around so much death.
DAVID
Angela I still love you, and I will never ever stop loving you. I wish that you would understand what Iím trying to tell you.
ANGELA
Oh but I do understand-my boyfriend dumped me because he needs a break! A relationship is not like a job David, you just don't 'take breaks' when things get hard and tough! When you truly love and want to be with someone, you try to make things work. You don't call "time-outs," this isn't one of those football games you be watching. Iím real! I love you and I have feelings, and you have hurt me so much that I shouldn't have been surprised that this was coming. Have you ever been hurt so much David that you become immune to pain?
DAVID
Yes I have been hurtÖ I don't know, why you are sitting here trying to make me into the bad guy like itís all my fault.
ANGELA
David, you don't see me asking for a break! Therefore, it is 'your fault' that you don't want to be with me anymore- not mine! And, I have never done anything to you, but if youíre going to leave- go ahead... But, know this David- thereís no coming back this time, because I don't have a heart anymore!
DAVID
What does that suppose to mean- you have no heart anymore?
ANGELA
(crying)
I don't have a heart anymore David because youíve shattered it into a billion pieces, so if you are going to leave get out now, because I have nothing else to say to you.
DAVID
Angela don't be like that.
ANGELA
Get out of my car, out of my life, get out David!
DAVID
You know what, fine then Angela be like that. But Iíll give you a couple of hours, and youíll be begging me to come back, and all Iím going to remember is you told me to get out!
ANGELA
Good bye, David!
DAVID
You know what? Never mind. I’m leaving.
David gets out the car he forget his cell phone in the back seat.
DAVID (CONTíD)
Call me when you are ready to talk.
David slams the door shut.

INT. ANGELA'S MIND
ANGELA
Once, all that used to matter, was him and me. I love him so much, why did I hold back? Is it my fault- me being stupid and selfish only thinking about myself. When it was me against the world, it was him and only him who ever showed me that he cared. What about all the time that we spent together (three years to be exact.) We slept in the same bed, made out, but we never had sex, and he respected that he knew my morals and values as a christian. I really must admit I wasnít scared of losing him but I was scared that he would break my heart, but I still gave him a chance. I love him, but I love what I do more, or do I? Because, if he asked me not to go back then I wouldnít re-enlist. I'm so divided into two- my mind says go fight, but my heart says give it all up to be with you. David please forgive me, I'll do anything to be with you. Please forgive me, I really need one more chance! I'm willing to prove to you that I'll do anything to make you happy, just to be with you. I'm so sorry that I ruined the perfect relationship. David we don't need a break, because I still love you- and I know that you still love me too.

What more can I say? I still love Angela, but she made her decision and ruined our relationship when she signed that letter and decided to leave me. Yeah, she left me for her career and didn't even think twice about it. Selfish bitch! Did she really think that I was gonna just sit back and wait? Yeah right! I'm not making excuses for the truth I'm speaking- feel my pain. If I wanted it to work, I could have put up a better effort, but I didn't... 'Me' in a long distance relationship? Never! I'm a man with needs and with three thousand miles in between us, she couldnít do nothing for me while she was over there in Iraq but write me love letters! Why am I even wasting my breath? Weíre done, so what I am saying doesn't even matter! Let's talk about my future with ëSarahí, and the very special gift that she has given me. I'm so excited about our future. Besides, I know that Sarah will never leave me. Nope, never that's why I got her pregnant. I know that it sounds bad and no, I didn't trap her! It is something that we both really wanted. David phones goes off. Angela sees it’s a text message from Sarah.

(reading the text message)
Baby I’ll be right over after work!
Angela throws the phone onto the floor.

Angela gets out of her car.
INT. SARAHíS APARTMENT
SARAH
who is it?
ANGELA (O.S.)
Itís me Angela, can I come in for a minute?
Sarah opens the door.
SARAH
whatís up girl? Are you alright?
ANGELA walks into Sarah apartment biting her bottom lip and clenching her fists.
No! David just dumped me.
SARAH
Oh my GodÖ Iím so sorry to hear that girl!
Sarah hugs Angela.
ANGELA
After all Iíve done for him, how could he just leave me like this? Itís as though he never cared about me, or the times that we shared together.
SARAH
Awe baby itís not your fault. To be honest with you Angela he didn't deserve to be with you anyway.
ANGELA
He won't even tell me, if I did something wrong! He just said that he wanted to take a break, and just like that, itís over! I don't know what Iím going to do now, he was my 'everything!' Maybe if I was just a little more open minded we would still be together.
SARAH
Look Angela, if you go back now David will never take you serious, or respect you. Going back to him right now will make you look weak, and desperate. This is the time for you to be strong, itís not the time for you to be weak!
ANGELA
I know but it just hurt so bad. My heart hurts.
SARAH
I know, trust me I feel your pain. I know what itís like to love someone so much- that it hurts, and you can't do anything about it.
ANGELA
I know. Thank you Sarah, you have been so supportive of me through out my relationship. You always know the right things to say, every time.
SARAH
I try to do what I can.
ANGELA
Yeah, it's just when you think that you know someone you really don't, but itís cool. Today has been full of surprises for me, ëespeciallyí from the people that I thought loved me.
SARAH
Look Angela Iím sorry about what David did to you, but believe me, if I can do anything for you I will. I love you and I want you to know that's there's nothing that I wouldn't do for you, I'm your best friend and I love you!
ANGELA
Youíre right I know that you love me, well I better get going, I have some things that I need to get done.
SARAH
Me too girl, but don't hesitate to call me if you need to talk about anything...Remember be strong, and please get yourself some rest.
ANGELA
Don't worry I will, and you do the same friend. [Angela walks out of the door.]
SARAH

Angela walking away.
ANGELA

INT. SARAH'S MIND
SARAH
Why are you looking at me like that? She knew that I really liked him, but she kept bringing him around. What was I suppose to do? She left him lonely; he was so hurt that I had to comfort him. As for as Angela and I to me we are still friends, well at least to me- I'm not mad. You know what I don't owe her anything, especially not an apology! To be honest, she owesí me the thank you. I was the reason that her David were able to last, as long as they did! We are all grown ups here, and he made his own decision to break up with her, I had nothing to do with it. In fact, I told him to wait for her! I even gave him ideas on how to keep himself busy until she got back. We started talking a lot more, then we got closer. Hell, I was talking to him more than she was. I mean, she was even to busy to pick up the phone and give him a call. Guess it just wasn't meant to be for them. I mean, you can't hold back true love, and me and David- well it's true love. As for Angela, well she is just going to have to deal with it, and if she still wants to be my friend then I'm OK with it. I'm not mad at her, and if she can't handle me and David being together, then oh well, too fucking bad...Life goes on!

Angela sitting on the boardwalk watching the sun goes down. Carving in the wood with her military knife.

(Very Angry)
I wasted seven years of my life on you David. You hurt me, and you donít even care! You went behind my back and started dating my so call best friend. Do you really expect me to just roll over and let you walk all over my heart? I love you David but Iím no fool. Since you hurt me, itís only right that I hurt you back. I was a great girlfriend, I was there for you when you needed me, I stayed with you when everyone told me to leave you alone. I provided you will every need, I took care of you! Anything you ever needed, I was there- anything! If I had it you had it...Sarah how could you, but then again I should have known not to bring you around David. Some 'friend' you turned out to be! Oh girl, Iíll write you everyday! What happen to that? Oh I know; you were too busy fucking my man. You bitch! It takes two, and you two motherfuckers deserve each other, but first you both are going to pay for hurting meÖ I can promise you that!

Sarah sitting down talking to David on the phone.
SARAH
I just got here. How long before you make it?
DAVID (V.O.)
(On the phone)
Iím leaving work now, it shouldnít take me no time to get there.
SARAH
OK, well Iíll be waiting.
Sarah hangs up the phone.
Angela crawls out the coat closet near the front door. dressed in all black wearing a black ski mask creeps up behind Sarah and puts her hand over her mouth.
ANGELA
(in a man sounding voice)
Donít say a word!
Sarah shakes her head yes
ANGELA (CONTíD)
I am going to remove my hand from your mouth, if you say a word I will cut your throat. Do you understand me?
Sarah crying shakes her head yes.
ANGELA (CONTíD)
Good. Now put you hands around your back.
Angela hand cuffs Sarah hands around the back of the chair.
ANGELA (CONTíD)
Wow, I like those shoes! They look good on you, especially since you stole them anyway. Now tell me something, what are you all dressed up for?
SARAH
Iím waiting on my boyfriend to get here.
ANGELA
Your boyfriend? Ha! Tell me something, how long have you two been dating?
SARAH
three months.
ANGELA
three months? Do you love your boyfriend?
Enough to die for him?
SARAH

ANGELA
What do you mean, No? I thought that you were in love with him?
SARAH

ANGELA

When it happens, trust me - it hurts. Itís like someone is sticking a nail into your heart. Itís a really sharp pain, but you want to know what makes it hurt even worse? When you know the thief! Trust me, I know these things.
SARAH
(crying uncontrollably)

ANGELA
Oh, so now you are sorry?
Angela slaps Sarah in the face.

ANGELA
You donít have anything I want. Besides, if I really wanted to hurt you, I still could, but truthfully- you arenít even worth it. Know this- what goes around, comes around. Do you think that your man would ever cheat on you?
SARAH
No he wouldnít.
ANGELA
How do you figure that? Has he ever cheated on any of his exís?
SARAH
Yes, but he made a promise to me when he gave me this ring that he would never ever cheat on me.
ANGELA
He gave you a ring, and now he wonít ever cheat on youÖ Once a cheater always a cheater, and if he cheated on his ex, ëring or no ringí heís going to cheat on you! Trust me I know! After he cheats on you then you will start questioning the fact- if he had really ever loved you or if he was just saying that. ANGELA

SARAH

Good, so tell me have you ever hurt someone that you loved.
SARAH
Yes. Yes, I have.
ANGELA
Thatís better, now you are telling the truth...Tell me this, if you had the chance to apologize to that person would you?
SARAH

ANGELA
Well, go ahead and tell everybody that you have ever hurt- that you are sorry.
SARAH

ANGELA

DAVID

DAVID

ANGELA
Oh really, well letís find out.
[Angela puts the knife to Davidís throat.]

ANGELA
OK, so, I should cut her?
DAVID

DAVID

ANGELA
Have you ever hurt anyone before David?
DAVID
Iím sure that I have, nobody is perfect.
ANGELA

DAVID

ANGELA

DAVID

SARAH

DAVID
Look Angela, Iím not coming back to you, so get that through your head, Iím with Sarah now!
[Angela hits David in the face with the handle of the knife.]

ANGELA
Oh really? Well you havenít seen nothing yet...Iím just getting started. How could you do this to me David, with my so-called best friend?
SARAH
Angela, itís not like that. Iím still your friendÖ
ANGELA
No, you stop being my friend when you caught feelings for my man, but you know what- I donít only blame you itís his fault, and my fault too. I should have never bought him around you. But hey, I guess that's what I get for thinking that I could trust either of you.
DAVID
You got one thing right- it is your fault! If you would have treated me right maybe, and I mean just maybe- we would still be togetherÖ
ANGELA
I gave you my all David, and you know what hurting you like you hurt me isnít worth it, and you know what Iím better than you, and youíre just not man enough for me!
DAVID

ANGELA
No David, that is what I know. It took me a while to realize it, but Iím glad that I have, so you can have Sarah, because sheíll never be able to treat you the way I did.
DAVID

ANGELA
Give it up on your mind games David, theyíre not working.
DAVID
What games Angela? Iím speaking the truth, and we both know that.
ANGELA
As for you Sarah, I donít know what makes you think that if he would cheat on me then he isnít going to cheat on you. Ring or not, David is David and canít nothing or nobody change David but David, but youíll find that out yourself.
DAVID
You know what Angela, you're just jealous because Sarah is three weeks pregnant with my baby, and youíre not!
ANGELA
(sneering in disbelief)
Congratulations on your child and your future marriage. I hope that everything works out, but before I go, I just want to let both of you know that I forgive you both for what you did to me. I just needed some closure, and I finally got it. Like I said, I hope that every thing works out for the best.
DAVID
It will, donít you worry - it will, I can promise you that!
ANGELA
OK David, there you go with another one of your promisesÖ I wonít hold my breath, Good night!
DAVID
Where are you going? Arenít you going to let us go first?
ANGELA
Why should I? Besides, you should be good at getting out of situations that you donít want to be in by now.
DAVID
Angela come back here! Iíll get you for this! I promise!
[Angela walks over to David and puts the blade of knife onto his face.]
ANGELA
What was that?
DAVID
Donít cut me, it was nothing Angela. Please donít cut me! Iím so sorry - it was Sarahís idea she came on to me. What was I supposed to do?
ANGELA
(angry)
Maybe you should have came and told me, but whatever David!
SARAH
(angry shouting)
You bastard, I did not! You started calling me, and coming to my job!
DAVID
What ever you fat bitch! You know you chase after me.
ANGELA
Both of you please shut the fuck up.
[Angela puts her finger over David lips. Angela cuts David on the cheek.]
ANGELA (CONTíD)
Now you know my pain.
(Laughing)
It hurt doesn’t it David? I’m so over you.
Angela wipes David’s blood off her knife with his shirt.
DAVID
You cut my face you crazy bitch. Hey Angela, if you are really over me -why donít you prove it?
[David kicks over Sarahís purse.]
DAVID (CONTíD)
How ëbout you pull the test out of Sarahís purse and read it aloud, unless you're scared?
[Angela pulls the envelope out of Sarahís purse and begins to read it.]
DAVID (CONTíD)
Yeah, in your face bitch!
ANGELA
(angry)
Sarah you are pregnant!
DAVID
(laughing)
You are feeling real stupid right now.
[Angela places the letter on Davidís Lap.]
ANGELA
(smiling)
Not when the letter says she is six and half weeks pregnant! hmmmmmm Didnít you just get back from basketball camp in New York three weeks ago? You should do the math.
(in davidís face)
You are smart; so you do the math.
Angela walks out.
SARAH
Iím so sorry baby! I wanted to tell you, but I didnít want to take the chance of losing you. You said that we would be together forever, so I figured that it didnít matter.
DAVID
You stupid bitch! How could you? Iím going to kill you!
David screaming in a rage.

INT. ANGELAíS MIND
ANGELA
Thank you Father for blessing me with the strength not to do anything stupid. I feel bad for David and Sarah, what they thought to be good news- turned out to be devastating. I would never wish anything like that on anyone. With all the anger thatís built up inside me towards David for some reason through all I have been through in this past year, I must say that Iíve learned not to take anything or anyone for granted. Spending the last year around death, and having my heart broken really makes you appreciate life itself and the choices that we make. I canít help but wonder ëwhat if I would have slept with David.í That letter with those three letters would have changed my life forever. I donít know for sure why life has bought me down this path, but Iím glad that it did. It makes me want to live one day at a time, but yet brave enough to wait to see what tomorrow will bring. When you think that someone is out to hurt you, they could actually be doing you a favor! Of course, this doesnít apply to everything, but when it does- follow your heart and listen to your mind. It is important to try to find middle ground. Or, what I would consider ëpeace for the soul.í
