Bernie the Fruit Bat was very fed up, as he hung upside down in the rain
And he said to himself, as his fur got all wet, “This weather’s becoming a pain !
There ought to be something a Fruit Bat could do to keep himself dry in the showers”
So he shook off some drops as his misery grew, and he carried on thinking for hours.
It’s a miserable life for a bat when it rains - a fact that not everyone knows.
For the water runs down from the feet to the head, where it ends up inside a bat’s nose !
“I’ve got it !” cried Bern, as he sniffled again, “The answer to every bat’s prayer -
And we’ve carried it round with us such a long time, but nobody knew it was there !”
Now Bern and the Fruit Bats don’t mind when it rains as they hang upside down in their tree,
They just unfold their wings and spread them out wide to become an umbrella, you see !
