A Giant And The Mile Of Steel
From Seaport, Downtown Manhattan, I have the best view of the mile of steel, as Mayakovski called the bold bridge connecting the island of Manhattan to Brooklyn that we Italians simply refer to as simply the Brooklyn Bridge. In junior years, I learned by heart the poem “Brooklyn Bridge”; by Mayakovski, but now I just remember a few lines such as “rigorous calculation of bolts and steel”; I did not know that today I would have seen the bridge for the second time and I have had a job left to do. To bring me here is the beautiful moment of my marriage and honeymoon. Gloria, my wife, and I, we are happy. The fate has brought me back to Manhattan in the days of the honey, and as for the first time, the vision of the bridge is an unprepared exciting moment. In Manhattan there are many things to see, why should I go to a bridge, even if this bridge is so full of history?
