| Author bio: Brianna Hawthorne has in the past lived in cities and enjoyed a technological career, but the stresses of her profession and all the political… stuff it entailed eventually drove her to write. After many more years and frustrations, she ran away to the mountains where, aside from trips to the Island that inspired the creation of Shiral, she wishes to stay until the end of her days. Before the responsibilities of parenthood overtook her, she was a computer geek that loved to play role-playing games and being a weekend historian in the Society for Creative Anachronism. Now she concentrates on providing the healthiest home environment for her family as possible. She enjoys growing her own organic foods and herbs, and listening to a wide variety of music. |

The Wyckham House | by Sharon Gerlach Dec. 19, 2011 | 135363 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Sharon Gerlach was in training to be a ninja, but a dismaying lack of physical grace and balance—not to mention the inability to keep her big mouth shut—ended her ninja career before it had really begun. Now she writes. She doesn’t write about ninjas because that’s obviously a sore subject. But she writes about other really cool things and figures someone else will cover the ninjas. Life’s really not all about ninjas, anyway. Sharon lives on the dry side of the Pacific Northwest with her husband (who must really be fond of her as he hasn’t left her yet despite her ninja failings); two of her three kids (none of whom possess ninja qualities either); and a Border collie who suffers the presence of seven cats. Yes, you guessed it—ninja cats! Subscribe at RunningInkPress.com to be notified of more releases by this author. |

Hiçbir zaman kendi görüşünü, kendi fikrini yazmayıp, daima Ehl-i sünnet âlimlerinin, anlayabilenleri hayran eden kıymetli yazılarını Arapça ve Farsça’dan tercüme ederek kitaplarında yayınlamıştır. Hüseyin Hilmi Işık Efendi, Ehl-i sünnet âlimlerinin kitaplarını okuyup anlayabilecek salih kimselerin azaldığını ve cahil kimselerin din adamları arasına karışarak, bozuk kitaplar yazıldığını görerek üzülmüş, (Fitne yayıldığı zaman, hakikati bilen, başkalarına bildirsin! Bildirmezse, Allah’ın ve bütün insanların laneti ona olsun) hadis-i şerifinde bildirilen tehditten dehşet duymuştur. Seadet-i Ebediyye ve diğer kitaplarında, binlerce mesele yazdı. Unutulmuş ilimleri ihya etti. (Ümmetim bozulduğu zaman bir sünnetimi ihya edene yüz şehid sevâbı verilir) hadis-i şerifini hep göz önünde tutarak, farzları, vacibleri, sünnetleri, hatta müstehabları uzun uzun yazdı. Dünyanın her tarafındaki insanlara İslamiyet’i doğru olarak tanıttı. Ehl-i sünnet âlimlerince tasvip edilen ve övülen, yüzlerce Arabî ve Fârisî eseri, Hakîkat Kitabevi vasıtasıyla yedi iklim, dört bucağa yaydı. Vehhabi, Hurufi, Kadiyani gibi bozuk fırkaların doğru yoldan ayrıldıkları noktaları, bütün dünyaya vesikalarla tanıttı. Ehl-i sünnet itikadı canlanmaya, kıpırdamaya ve yeşermeye başladı. Tecdid, dini yenileyip kuvvetlendirmek demektir. Sık sık "Vatan sevgisi imandandır" hadis-i şerîfini okurdu. Once Upon Another World | by Shiva Winters March 01, 2012 | 132261 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: As a substitute of a profile I find hard to make in a reasonable amounts of words, I'd like to offer my philosophy of writing. Entertainment. In as few words as possible that is what my books are about. I wrote them for myself, I personally enjoy re-reading them, I enjoy creating new chapters in on going themes, and I decided to publish them on the chance some few might enjoy them. I did not write them with the intent of publication, I did not publish them with dreams of avarice, and I only, truly, hope that there are readers out there who enjoy them as much as I do. I cannot and I will not promise my readers will like my hobby, agree with my views, or find any entertainment in what I have written. My books were not written for everyone, hence not everyone will like them. I will do my best to offer the best 'product' to my readers as I am able. I can not yet promise a mistake free experience, but I am one who is never satisfied. Each time I re-read my own words I find changes I wish to make. And I will do my best to leave notice when new editions are available. Because just as each work I offer to the public might never quite seem finished, the ideas behind them were a process of creation and re-creation. Each thing I bring into the world has been written and re-written time and time again, and they never seem perfect to me no matter how many times they are re-imagined. I could go on, but that covers the bullet points well enough. PS This profile took four edits for me to be satisfied. PPS Someone once said. 'Perfection is unobtainable, but that does not mean you should not try.' |

Broken | by Dean Murray Oct. 28, 2011 | 132222 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Dean started reading seriously in the second grade due to a competition and has spent most of the subsequent three decades lost in other people's worlds. After reading several local libraries more or less dry of sci-fi and fantasy, he started spending more time wandering around worlds of his own creation to avoid the boredom of the 'real' world. Things worsened, or improved depending on your point of view, when he first started experimenting with writing while finishing up his accounting degree. These days Dean has a wonderful wife and daughter to keep him rather more grounded, but the idea of bringing others along with him as he meets interesting new people in universes nobody else has ever seen tends to drag him back to his computer on a fairly regular basis. |

City of Blaze (Volume 1 of The Fireblade Array) | by Hadleigh O Charles June 24, 2011 | 131864 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Up till now I've been a little reticent about explicitly outlining the whats, hows and whys of the project. That's partly because I wasn't sure how the book would be read, consumed and interpreted. Anyway, below is a summary of what all of this stuff is, together with the obligatory 'about the author' section. 'Project' is perhaps too focused a word for the pieces of work I'm putting together as, to me, the whole thing is a compilation of 'things I like' that have somehow been crammed into a series of books. I suppose it can be described as a fantasy epic with incongruous humour and a strong romantic storyline. Fantasy: I'm a fanatic of this genre and the idea of it: that strange mixture of the historical and the mythical. There's a real thrill in making the rules (and making them logical) when contemporary literature is subject to rules we're already very aware of. Not that some of the greats don't manipulate those rules to their advantage... but I digress. I'm not so keen on elves and faeries and that sort of stuff, but fantasy offers a sort of exoticism that is both well-explored and has infinite opportunities for manipulation. Epics: When a story is good, I find single novels enormously frustrating! I want a detailed story that I can step inside and stay in. And the end is never really the end. Sometimes a book will finish with the Happily Ever After, and sometimes it will finish with the Shocker that keeps you sleepless for days afterwards. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just find the prospect of exploring the possibilities of 'what happened next' really exciting. At the same time, a series that drags on will eventually bore a reader to despair and books need a visible end-goal. I can't explain the beginnings and ends of each of my books here without giving too much away, but it is born out of my interpretation of this sort of conflict. Humour: My sense of humour is about as immature as it comes. Toilet humour, Viz, euphemisms, puns and B3ta are all very welcome. I love an excuse to giggle like a naughty student over innuendo (in your end-o! ) and I get a kick out of visual jokes, too. The books contain a few references to this in the text, and most of the illustrations have some sort of hidden (or not so hidden) web meme. Melding these two things with fantasy isn't so unusual or unexpected. Some might argue it's geek literature with geek humour, but there's something else I wanted to throw in... Romance: This is where the path strays from the well-trodden OS Map of Public Rights of Way and crosses into an ether of bramble-knotted worm-holes. Thing is, I really enjoy a good romantic storyline. I'm not talking about the sort of drivel you see in so many 'romcom' films, or the stuff that's churned out by some publishers on an hourly basis, and I'm not talking about what I call 'whiny-takes-itself-too-seriously' romance. I do, however, admire the enormously sarcastic tone taken by Jane Austin, or the utterly tragic desperation Thomas Hardy injected into everything he wrote. Some of the romantic subplots in fantasy have the potential to be very good, but I've yet to find one that's resolved in a way I find satisfying. Combining these things doesn't come without rules, however. I'm not sure if the romantic female lead can get away with emerging from the privy with a cheeky grin, saying, "Sorry, Morghiad, just been to drop the kids off at the pool. You might want to leave it ten minutes." Actually, thinking about it, she might say that... but it would never be explicit in the book. I like the way that the character Beetan comes out as my bad sense of humour, and no one else around him really understands his presence. So these books are all very well for me, but I wonder whom they appeal to. Actually, no - that's the sort of question a publisher would concern themselves with. I'm glad if anyone from anywhere reads it and enjoys it. And now for the 'about me' bit... Many authors have a paragraph in the back of their best-selling novel that describes their reason for writing, and it's usually along the lines of a tragedy or hardship they've faced. Quite often they're dead, which seems to help enormously. Anyway, things for me have been a little easier and far less dramatic. I grew up in a fairly middle-class household, got into a private school, did my homework and got into Cambridge. After that I studied a bit more, worked some long-hour jobs and returned to the gentle embrace of academia again. But this, on occasion, leaves me soaked in self-absorbed guilt because everyone else in my family has had it so much harder. I'm not sure how to properly explain it without dragging everything through the public domain, but I can summarise by saying there's been depression, poverty, marriage breakdowns (in almost all cases), sexual and physical abuse, mental disorders and addiction. Each of my siblings (they are from my mother's first marriage, I am from the second) and both my parents have either suffered from these problems or have been subjected to them. I'm the one who can sit down and write about how members of my immediate family conquered the problems they faced. This is going to sound as if it's dripping with Cheddar cheese, but they're the perfect inspiration for the heroes in my books. |

The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End | by David George Richards Jan. 08, 2012 | 131269 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I was born in Manchester in the North West of England in 1957. Although I have moved around a bit, Manchester is still both my physical and spiritual home. I am a Northerner. I am also married to Rosanna, and have been now for over twenty years. I have an imagination that began when I was very young and never waned. I also like reading and so it was no surprise I suppose when I started writing. Because I am an unknown who has never been picked up by either an Agent or mainstream Publisher, I am a bit of a one man band. I even do my own covers and have become a bit of a digital artist as a result. I started writing when I was young and very bad. Now I am older and a lot better. My writing has improved too. I write science fiction, fantasy and romance stories. I also like to mix and match with romance in science fiction and so on. Female characters feature very prominently in my stories, many of them in strong and attractive leading roles. The reason for this is that I like women, a lot. In fact I adore everything about them, so it is no surprise that I enjoy reading stories where women feature prominently and that I should also enjoy writing stories where women feature prominently. It gives my stories a female bias, but I think they are better for it. I also like every character, even the monsters and villains, to have a realistic reason for being and doing what they do. Like reality, everything blurs. There is no right or wrong, just different viewpoints that lead to conflict. But I also like my out and out villains to be really bad. If you like science fiction, thrillers and romance stories with particular emphasis on leading female characters that are exciting and adventurous, look no further. God. Speak. | by Frank Buchan Oct. 11, 2009 | 128729 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I am a computer programmer by trade, and own a business that absorbs between 200 and 300 hours a month; I have a wife and young daughter, and for two days a week to I get to be Mister Mum. Those are the best two days of my week, and being Mister Mum is about the only thing I need to be good at any more. I am further blessed in that working for myself, I can be available for my daughter the other five days when required. I also have five cats, all of them demanding attention whenever the mood strikes them, which is expressed with a vengeful disregard for me that only a cat could express while still retaining its sense of dignity – all other creatures would be deeply ashamed of themselves. Oh, how I wish I were a cat. Though I write obsessively, life being what it is, I haven’t enough time to dedicate to making the stories letter-perfect. Editorial work falls by the wayside too often, and what I end up with are, at best, rough gems. The first book I posted here was priced as an experiment, and will be free if I can ever proof it again, since my gut feel is that eBooks will never be an economic force in my lifetime, at least for writers. All other books will be free, because it is the only way I can forgive the inability to proof them as they deserve. It reduces the sting of knowing there are some errors in them; and it recognizes that, realistically, few people will actually pay for any product if they can get a similar substitute for free. I have no illusions about my talents as a writer, and know that while I am better than some, I am never going to be the best -- that honour will befall someone new every few hours. I appreciate hearing from readers who have the ability to be ruthless as required, and kind as inspired. Anyone who wants to, can contact me via twitter or my blog. If you wish a personal reply, combine an email address with some patience and I will do my best. I do ask for polite communications, though. If you're so angry you need to swear at someone, or belittle someone, feel free to direct that toward the actual cause of your grief – my time is too short to expend it fighting pointless battles with strangers and those types of communications end up in my junk mail where they belong. That I even have to write that reminds me how unpleasant contacts made via the Internet can be. Some day, perhaps, I will win a lottery and have the resources to seek editorial perfection in my work; but until then I will still publish what I can, because it is a compulsion that cannot be denied. |

American Bad Ass | by Leland Kropp April 14, 2010 | 128714 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: My name is Leland S. Kropp Jr. and I am the Fonder of the Eureka Merchants Task Force. I started my own business in 1994 and during my this time I became involved with Business Network International (BNI) and was involved in numerous Chambers of Commerce. I was very successful within the BNI organization and was hired as a director where I helped grow their organization from 33 chapter to over 110. I had spent the better part of 10 years working with BNI helping small and medium size businesses learn networking skills. I left BNI because I had lost focus on my own business. In 2007 I was approached by the executive director of the Eureka Chamber of Commerce, she had know of my history with in the BNI organization and she recruited me into helping grow their chamber. During this time we put together monthly classes where I would teach networking skills to the members of the Eureka Chamber. As we started these classes I began to taken notes of what I hoped to accomplish during these classes, these notes turned into my first book "Don't Quit Your Day Job" which is a book that teaches networking skills and how to maximize networking group and chambers. In 2008 I was voted onto the Eureka Chamber Board of Directors and then elected by the board to be President. As President I instituted some of the best aspects of BNI into the Chamber forum. One of my favorite accomplishments was when I put together the Eureka Merchants Task Force which at the time was under the umbrella of the Chamber. The projects that the Task Force pursued required faster action and more attention then the chamber was capable of giving so in the winter of 2008 the board of director voted for me to make the Eureka Merchants Task Force it own entity. The EMT put together programs that were designed to bring the citizens of Eureka into the businesses of Eureka. Our Bingo encouraged students of Eureka to visit local business in the hope of winning scholarships. We gave three scholarships in the amount of $3000. Our next project was called "Discover Eureka" which was geared towards the adults of our town, we award $3000 in "Eureka Bucks" which was money that could only be spent in our town. We also held a "Town Texas Hold'em" tournament where business were allowed to purchase spots on any of the faces of the 52 playing cards. $1500 in Eureka bucks were given to the first, second and third place winners. As of today the Eureka Merchants Task Force is taking networking to the next level. With the knowledge gained over the years we are proud to announce the start of the "Eureka Business Alliance" We have taken the best aspects of Chamber groups and Networking groups to form a very powerful home town networking group designed to focus on our town. By developing networking team that require members to live in or work within a five miles of the town that they are members. Portions of the money raised by these group will go into a larger scholarship fund for the children of town. I believe in the power of networking, and I believe in the power and the good of small home towns. I believe that if we work together we can survive any challenge that fall in our path. |

Interpretation of the Thirtieth Part of the Holy Qur’an | by Mohammad Amin Sheikho May 09, 2012 | 128051 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: The humane Eminent Scholar Mohammad Amin Sheikho (His soul has been sanctified by Al’lah)(1890-1964) His full moon appeared over Damascus in the year 1890. He completed his studies when he became eighteen years old. He graduated in the rank of security officer. He faced storms of criminals in his work with courage and boldness, and he besieged many guerrillas and arrested their leaders. All his works were crowned in victory and support until he was surnamed ‘Aslan’, meaning ‘the lion’. After he became forty years old: His sanctified assemblies were distinguished by charming and unique revelation in perfect and plain meanings, and complete presence of reality. His words used to hit the target and fall cool and peaceful in the hearts of the listeners, as a light that bewitched them to free their spirits to soar very high. Why are we created? What is this universe for? What is the use of religious rituals? What is hunger for, followed by eating in Ramadan? What is the output and benefit of prayer? Why do pilgrimage to a waterless and treeless desert? Why were we brought into existence? Where were we? What is death for? And what is really after it? What is the spirit? What is the soul? What is the mind? What is paradise? What is hell? What about the problem of fate? What is the pre-material world (the world of spirits)? On the year 1953, the great philosopher Sir John Godolphin Bennett had come to meet him, and wrote one book about this great meeting called (Journeys in Islamic Countries). He spent a valuable life full of knowledge of God, which the heart does not feel safe without, and without which humankind won’t achieve happiness until he joined the highest Comrade in the first days of Rabi’ Thani in the year 1964. |

Legon Awakening: Book One in the Legon Series | by Nicholas Taylor June 07, 2010 | 127121 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Hi, I’m Nick Taylor, I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, possibly the greatest place on earth. I went to Dakota Ridge High and was in band— that’s right I was a band nerd and no, I don’t have any cool “one time at band camp†stories, so don’t ask. I started writing in October of 2007. I was driving around with a friend and said “hey, I wonder if I can write a book.†So I thought I’d try and write outline and see what happens. Well, I finished the outline and I couldn’t just stop there. I needed to write chapter one and then that would be it. Do you see where this is going? Anyway, after chapter one was done, I had to finish the first book. But I wanted to get input as I went in order to write a better story. I decided to do a podcast of the first three chapters to see what people thought. After the first podcast, I decided that I wanted to continue to do it and more over, I wanted to get a larger listener base. It's all been a wonderful journey from there. |

I was publicity chairman of the California Belly Dance Association for a while, actor in a motion picture, Manufacturing Engineer and Regional Chairman of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and finally Professor of Manufacturing Technology at a local community college. Name it, and I've likely done it. However, despite threatening to do so for many years, I'd never written a book. At least, until now. It's a lot of work. You really, really have to love it. Fortunately, (or unfortunately) it do love it and plan to continue it as long as I can type, scribble or speak. Stay tuned for more. (See my website,Facebook and my blog for new books.) |
