Things a Monkey Could Cook | by Jean Stites April 19, 2012 | 55739 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Chronologically, I span approximately sixty years; and I’ve paraphrased this unsurpassable opening line from Janet, who was my suitemate at SUNY Binghamton: a place which also gave me a B.A. in Music and my husband. We have two swell children and a pussycat. We raised our family in Georgia, as I supplemented my piano teaching with a variety of anthropologically instructive employments while entertaining myself during many treasured twilight hours with the pursuit of literature for fun and enlightenment, until a tempestuous fate blew this grateful musician into the relatively safe haven of San Francisco Bay. While I grew up in Oakwood, New York: an unmapped hamlet, smack dab in the middle of the Finger Lakes, where at an early age I contracted pneumonia after playing in the snow, which sent me to bed and turned me into a reader. Then I went temporarily blind when I was fifteen and laid there once again in the dark, making up stories and metamorphosing into a writer. After that I became a valedictorian, went out into the wide wacky world, and soon learned that I really didn’t know squat about anything.... Although having now given it all some thought, of course, I pray my audience will feel that I’ve made some progress. Plus, having now also spent quite some time making up stories in the dark, I hope they'll be as much fun for you to read as they are for me to write. |

Learn a little Spanish with SangrÃa | by Serge Seveau Oct. 14, 2011 | 4725 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Born in the South of France, eight years later found myself residing in Australia; probably due to the fact that my family migrated there in 1971. Although my trade is ‘ceramic wall and floor tiler’, I now enjoy performing Paramedical duties in my ‘newly’ found career - since 1995 (not that new I guess). I love poetry and short stories (short attention span . . . lol). I first started to write in the mid eighties, and am looking forward to publishing all my work (at least most of it), and hope readers enjoy my style as much as I love immersing myself in the work of others. Feel free to contact me, as I love all feedback - or just a chat. |

Death by Chocolate | by M.E. Brines Aug. 12, 2011 | 1456 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: The author, M.E. Brines, spent the Cold War assembling atomic artillery shells and preparing to unleash the Apocalypse (and has a medal to prove it.) But when peace broke out, he turned his fevered, paranoid imagination to other pursuits. Designer of more than twenty sci-fi wargames and The Struggle of Nations play-by-e-mail game (all available at www.MEBrines.com) he spends his spare time scribbling another steampunk romance occult adventure novel, which despite certain rumors absolutely DOES NOT involve time-traveling Nazi vampires! A member of the British Society for Psychical Research, he is a long-time student of the occult, a committed Christian*, and author of two dozen books, e-books, chapbooks and pamphlets on esoteric subjects such as Alien Abduction, Alien Hybrids, UFOs, Conspiracies, Mind Control the Falun Gong, esoteric Nazism, the Knights Templar, astrology, magick, the Bible, the spear of Longinius and Christian discipleship. His work has also appeared in Challenge magazine, The Traveller Chronicle, Midnight Times, The Outer Darkness, Tales of the Talisman, and The Willows magazine. *I'm often asked how I square Christianity and "messing around" with the occult, as if I'm partial to bestial things with a goat under the amber light of the moon or something. No so. I'm a student, in the same way I used to study Soviet weapons and tactics back when I was a US Army officer. This gives my work a unique perspective no matter what your belief system. I don't judge, just present the information and let the reader decide. |

The Fermented Gourmet: A Second Career | by The Fermented Gourmet May 09, 2011 | 2914 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: My name is Bill, and I am The Fermented Gourmet. After years of tasting wine/beer/spirits, and travelling to remote parts of the world, I am now enriching lives with my words. Mine has certainly been a road less travelled, and many might cringe at the thought of tasting Burgundies in a wine cellar at 9:00 in the morning. However, that is just one example of the daunting tasks I've been asked to perform throughout my career. I have endured my hardships with great enthusiasm and now present them in my own, unique way. I welcome all who have an interest in wine, beer, cooking, entertaining, sarcasm, wit and humor. Thank you for reading my bio! |

Rapid Recipes for Writers . . . And Other Busy People | by Marsha Ward Dec. 23, 2010 | 2395 words | Sample 50% |
| Author bio: Marsha Ward was born in the sleepy little town of Phoenix, Arizona, and grew up with chickens, citrus trees, and lots of room to roam. She began telling stories at a very early age, regaling neighborhood chums with her tales over homemade sugar cookies and milk. Her love of 19th Century Western history was reinforced by visits to her cousins on their ranch and listening to her father's stories of homesteading in Old Mexico and in the Tucson area. Over the years, Marsha became an award-winning poet, writer and editor, with over 900 pieces of published work. She is the founder of American Night Writers Association and a member of Western Writers of America, Women Writing the West, and Rim Country Writers. She makes her home in a tiny forest hamlet in Arizona. When she is not writing, she loves to spoil her grandchildren, travel, give talks, meet readers, and sign books. |
