Heart Of A Soldier by Josh Isaacs Heart Of A Soldier by Josh Isaacs Jan. 06, 2012 4931 words Read a sample
Author bio:
I'm a 21 year old who wants to change the world. Due to the unlikelihood of that happening, I'll settle for changing you if you'll let me. I've had no formal creative writing training nor have I gone to college, though that is in the works. I've not even read any classical literature; what I write is purely me and my own, as repulsive and coarse as that may be. I've written about a half-dozen short stories, most of a novel, and over a hundred complete song lyrics(some use poetic devices, most don't, aside from rhyming). Not looking to make money from my stories--at least not until I've taken classes for writing. I'm also a guitarist, a wannabe singer and a terrible pianist. In a world of synth-driven, auto-tuned chart toppers, the kind of musician that I hope to be is quickly becoming obsolete. May each universe you create be as filled with imagination and wonder as this one. Please alert me to any ways you feel I can improve my style of writing. Rates, comments and criticism are not only welcome, but much appreciated.

After having traveled across the majority of the United States and seen many of the quirky, odd, and beautiful things our nation has in it's hidden corners I have decided to settle in the backwoods Of Alaska. Here I hope to build a farm and Christian retreat, a place for myself and others to get away from the pressures of the world and find a little inner peace. Currently my only written work Is The Secret the the Sword, however this is only the first in a series of books. My favorite Author is the late Mr. Robert Jordan and I can only thank him and his wonderful imagination for inspiring me not only to write but to fall in love with the written word. It is my belief that if a person doesn't love reading, then they can't love writing. And truthfully this is a labor of love for me because I don't ever see myself getting rich from it.

Most writers can't help themselves! It's a compulsion. Getting published, though, is something really special, and having been so fortunate myself I now try to help aspiring writers by handing on tips it took me years to work out. I've published over 60 titles, including four in the How To Books' Successful Writing Series, and Writing Historical Fiction for Studymates. I have judged short story competitions, been a final judge for the Harry Bowling Prize and was an adviser to the 3rd edition of Twentieth Century Romance and Historical Writers 1994. If you want to find out more about your favourite authors, consult this book. I once wrote an article on writing romantic fiction for the BBC's web page, for Valentine's day. I have given talks and workshops for the Arts Council and at most of the major Writing Conferences, and helped establish the Romantic Novelists' Association's annual conference. I was Chairman of the RNA 1991-3, ran their New Writers' Scheme and edited their newsletter. I am now a Vice-President. As well as writing I have edited books for Transita, featuring women 'of a certain age', and for Choc Lit where gorgeous heros are the norm. I was asked to write A Century of Achievement, a 290 page history of my old school, Queen Mary's High School, Walsall, and commissioned to write a book on Castles and Corvedale to accompany a new circular walk in the area. Most of my Regencies written under the pseudonym Sally James are now published in ebook format as well as many others of my out of print novels which my husband is putting into ebook format. Our daughter Debbie is helping with designing the covers. For details of all my books and my many pseudonyms see my website.

I'm currently working on my James Hadley series, the first two books are available for $1. The third will hopefully be published in April, but the date keeps getting pushed back so I make no promises. Please have a look at the books, and all feedback is taken into consideration. The cover images for my James Hadley books are just temporary so there is a greater chance they will actually get noticed. I'm currently working on some better covers to replace them, but I'm quite busy so it's taking time. There is a chance there won't be any new covers until after I have published the third James Hadley book. I also feel like I've rushed my James Hadley series, so once I've published the third book I will probably go over all three of them and possibly publish some revised editions. After reading through some of my earlier work I know it's not the best, especially compared to my writing now, so some changes might have to be made. If I don't publish any revised editions, I will probably write a short guide to all the groups of people in the James Hadley universe, because I don't think I've explained it very well, in terms of who's who and how different/similar their world is compared to ours. If you want to ask me any questions about any of my books and stories, or to just tell me what you think of them, please feel free to email me at jameshadleylindseyskye@gmail.com. From now on from the 1st to the 5th of every month the book James Hadley: Son of the Seas will be available for free download!

The Confessions of Old King Coal by Martin Crane The Confessions of Old King Coal by Martin Crane Nov. 10, 2011 44367 words Read a sample
Author bio:
Writing "The Confessions of Old King Coal" has been a labor of love for me. Three years ago I embarked on some family history research, focusing on a great uncle, Tommy Thompson, who emigrated to America in 1910. I knew he'd become quite successful in his little corner of America -- East Peoria -- but as I researched I unraveled the personality of the man, and the tragic relationship he shared with his wife. It was compelling stuff. He had the golden touch when it came to business -- he made his fortune in coal in the Twenties -- but he was a man of many contradictions, all of which are explored in my novel. His wife died in tragic circumstances in the Fifties, and it was this aspect of the story that really tugged at my heartstrings. I began to realize that I had enough material to write a gripping novel. I had uncovered a true-life story that could rival any tale of fantasy. I decided to transform my research into a work of biographical fiction. I felt this genre would allow me to put an interesting spin on the story. I introduced a fictional character, a local news reporter, and through this person I was able to give my relative, Tommy Thompson, a voice. Set in 1965, with flashbacks to earlier decades, I'm sure anyone interested in a poignant, true-life story with a vintage feel will enjoy this book.

Smoke by Richard Puz Smoke by Richard Puz Oct. 07, 2011 2472 words Read a sample
Author bio:
Richard Puz’s books are well researched. They bring to life the stories of American settlers who lived two centuries ago. He has journeyed throughout the world and has spent months traveling across America to search out the locations for his books. His novels are currently in a series called Six Bulls. These include Avenge, Six Bulls-The Ohioans, and The Carolinian. The novels in the Six Bulls series draw from family tales about settlers who journeyed to the American frontier in the 1800s. Their stories, passed down through the generations, paint pictures of courageous and adventurous people—a hearty lot—who had perseverance, self reliance, and, despite dangers and the unknown, overcame their fears. Most were not famous or widely celebrated, yet they carved out homes, farms, and a life on the frontier, and, in the process, created a great nation. His observations follow: "American settlers are heroes in my eyes, and it is an honor to include some of their folklore in my novels. "From my research, I have a better understanding of the Native American’s plight. Despite being fierce and resourceful, they were ultimately swept aside by the oncoming tide of settlers. There came a time for understanding and compassion by the conquering invaders. In too many instances, this did not occur, and that disgraceful stain is part of our historical legacy. "Like those ancestors, I, too, am on a journey, too."

Tom Williams' writing career started at about the age of 10, when he won a book in a national competition organized by a tea company. But, despite the student magazine publishing a piece of his at Oxford, there was no serious creative writing for decades after that. Instead, he wrote books for business covering everything from the gambling industry to new developments in printing technology. It was on a trip to Sarawak, visiting Dyak longhouses, that Tom discovered James Brooke and he spent far too much time in libraries over the next few years until he felt that he had some understanding of the man. He also started collecting South East Asian weapons and now knows an unhealthy amount about how to behead someone with a parang. These interests combined to produce 'The White Rajah'. Tom lives in London. His main interest is avoiding doing any honest work and this leaves him with time to ski, skate and dance the tango, all of which he does quite well. He is also working on another novel, again a historical story but this time set in Argentina during the Napoleonic wars.

He has published numerous short stories in various anthologies and literary magazines. And he also wrote non-fiction articles for a magazine for a few years but was drawn back to fiction. Nicholas Galt has an unmistakeable style that reaches underhandedly into the readers mind and offers a distinctive view of the world.

I live just outside Raleigh, North Carolina. I've only been professionally published once, in last fall's edition of Flashquake online magazine, but I hope it's the start of something long term. I'm happily married, and I'm the father to two beautiful little girls, ages five and two, who will never be allowed to date boys, drive cars that are transporting boys, nor ride in cars to places where boys are present, or wear non-Amish-spinster-approved clothing in front of boys. I love horror movies, rhythmic noise, peanut butter, and the Munsters, not necessarily in that order. Please feel free to contact me if you want; I'd love to hear what you thought of the book. My e-mail address is zombieapocalypse at earthlink.net. Thanks for reading.
