I decided to give wriing fiction a try after many years of writing film & game reviews. I used to own & write for my own film review website, but the time constraints on trying to review the latest films whilst also keeping a full-time job going didn't work out. There is no particular genre that I aim to write for; anything is an option! With writing fiction stories on my own schedule, I love that I can take as long as I like to get it done.

Author bio:
Hi there. My name is Robert Hendry, and over the past 30 years, I have 26 published Non-Fiction books in paper form. I recently decided I would like to branch out into the Fiction field, initially with a subject I have studied for a similar length of time, the Soviet Union. During that time I got to know a good deal about Soviet military hardware and operational doctrine, and after the break up of the USSR, it was interesting to actually see at first hand the stuff I had studied at a distance.Seeing a Termit Surface to surface missile fired for real beats any number of photos! The majority o COl War Era novels have a Western hero and Soviet baddies. In the 1980s, as the Brezhnev era ground to a stand, various factions view for power, and my novels have brought in a limited CIA or MI6 involvement, but the main action is between good guys and bad guys in the USSR. The First Novel to be relesed on Smashwords is "To Kill Our WOrthy Comrade", which covers a plot to assassinate the General Secretary at his dacha in the Crimea in 1981. The real 1991 plot took place at the replacement dacha just a few kilometres along the coast. The novel introduces the C-in-C of the Black Sea FLeet, Admiral Petrov who is drawn into the fight to defeat the plotters and a 19 year old girl communications rating, Lidiya. She is one of those girls who just seem to attract trouble, as you will discover in the Lidiya Petrova Series No 2 and No 3. I managed to get No 2, The Admiral's Woman on line, and if you felt that Lidiya had a pretty easy time in No 1, and landed on her feet, you will fidcover that things get a bit more hectic for the lovely Lidiya in "The Admiral's Woman". As you will have gathered I have these two very different publishing careers and I have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. As a historian, I have to rely on available sources, and imagination is not on. As a novelist, it is important to get facts right but after that the more imaginative and original the storyline the better. All the Best RObert H

I was born in Winston-Salem in the early autumn of 1986, and immediately became a lover of prose and literature. At a young age, I would delve into my mother's vast book collection (Antony and Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice), and a life-changing love affair was formed. I wanted to orchestrate stories like the ones I read, create new realms of thinking, new worlds, involving various types of people. I completed my first novel at 12...and I haven't put the pen down since. You'll find an array of writing styles - press releases, online exclusives, magazine articles, endorsement letters, suggesting that my interests and career goals surpass literary writing. It has always been my belief that the most important thing about writing is that it should convey the right message, in any fashion that it is presented. For my personal usage, writing has always soothed my soul, has always served as the perfect form of catharsis.

I've written things for ages, but since I'm currently unemployed (but looking to go self-employed for various projects - get in touch if you think I might be able to do something for you, incidentally!) I thought I'd give this self-publishing thing a shot. As I write this, I'm preparing to launch Not Quite Normal, a short story anthology. Over the next few weeks (it's currently the end of January 2012 in case I never update this!), I'll be releasing a few free stories from it. You can find out more information about the project on my blog, the link to which should be below this bio. Thanks for checking this out. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or just want to chat. I'm pretty easy to find online, since I'm the only person who has ever had my name in human history. Which is pretty neat! Take care, and happy reading! Shane

Author bio:
Author of fantasy fiction books, supernatural thrillers and creepy tales; whose occupation behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, for better than 25 years, allowed him to work in many capacities; from Property Master, Art Director and Set Designer to Video Producer. He has produced both works of art, corporate and industrial videos. During those years he also worked as a counselor to troubled teens. His unique insight into blended families and troubled homes has helped children and families to overcome many problems. “The experiences of my youth were, to say the least, strange and unusual. My mother was torn between two worlds – Christianity and the superstitious culture of the Deep South. It seemed to me that everywhere she went, trouble followed. Not the kind of trouble you would think of in any normal sense. There were constantly disturbing occurrences that were almost always inexplicable. It would be many years before I would realize what had happened to her during her youth—which was a unique blending of Christianity with the superstitious (Voodoo) traditions of the Deep South. Her odd behaviors made a deep impression on me at a very young age. I distinctly remember, at the age of three, how she was frightened to death of the cellar. How, when I had wandered down there, she lost it. With lightning speed she ran down the stairs, picked me up and turned to run back up the stairs. It was then that I saw in her face something that would stay in my memories for the rest of my life—fear. She scolded me something fierce about not going down there. I remember thinking it must be that thing down there that was hot (the furnace). That would be logical. It was for me, even then, at that early age. But then she said something I didn’t expect. ‘There are things down there—things you can’t see—things that are evil.’ Many years later, after my mother divorced my father, she and my step-father moved the three of us to a small town out west. A curious little community that was less than welcoming to outsiders. And we were the outsiders. What I would learn during those years living there was that this small town had its own dark secrets. The whole time we were there strange things always happened. I'd walk home at night and frequently would experience someone following me. I'd hear footsteps and I'd turn around to see nothing but an empty sidewalk. There would be strange inexplicable noises coming from the basement in the middle of the night, footsteps in the snow that would stop as if someone had walked there and then disappeared and unwelcome visitors in our house when my mother and stepfather were away on dates. I would later come to believe that my mother, like a moth to light, would somehow live in places where there were always things that went ‘bump’ in the night. I could go on and on, there were so many. I've started a blog to record several of them, along with some of my personal views on family and on my works of fiction. After working 25 years behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, I've launched my career writing about one of the genres that comes easiest to me… creepy stories.”

My first novel, January’s Paradigm, was published by Minerva Press, London, England. Current Entertainment Monthly in Ann Arbor, Michigan, wrote of January’s Paradigm, “(readers) will not be able to put it down.” I have another novel based on the Joe January character, January’s Penitence, being considered for publication. In 2008 I completed Backstop: A Baseball Love Story in Nine Innings, which is now available from Second Wind Publishing. After completing a futuristic piece, Chaotic Theory, a novella that explores the conjecture of how the flap of a butterfly’s wings in South America might result in a tornado in Texas, I commenced my next major project, a murder mystery that spans two centuries written around baseball legend, Ty Cobb. My fiction and essays appear in various online and print publications, including Cezanne’s Carrot, Saucy Vox, River Walk Journal, 63 Channels, The Writers Post Journal, Redbridge Review, and Blood and Thunder: Musings on the Art of Medicine. I am also a contributing writer to Impact Times and am cofounder of The Smoking Poet. My sports writing can be found at Bleacher Report.

WRITING Some first-hand experience of wasteful, inept and self-serving procurement practices in the public sector, with concerning press reports of uncontrolled costs and minimal accountability, provided inspiration for The Angels’ Share. I have witnessed opportunistic exploitation and stunning incompetence, by both public and private sector people and organisations in both national and local government. This begs a question, why is incompetence and self-serving abuse being allowed to continue? In addition to the Angels' Share series, I have two other writing projects in-hand. One is a Celtic spiritual warrior adventure story, set in Roman times, with preliminary research and writing begun. The other, having written over twenty published articles, involves the practicalities of the human side of work. ME A ‘son of the manse’ I lived in North America as a child; in Canada, the Mid-west and ultimately Washington DC before returning to the UK. I am British and Scottish and have a strong affinity for Americans. After a somewhat spotty school career, I did various jobs including time as a shepherd on the island of Mull. I became a middle manager in an engineering company at the age of twenty three. By twenty six I was running a training group of 20 SME manufacturing companies with over 30 locations. When I was thirty I joined a UK national multiple retailer and manufacturer as Head of HR. Next I started my own company as a business advisor, organisation/team development and change specialist. I worked extensively in the public and private sectors, blue chip to small enterprise. I was frequently hired by organisations to troubleshoot people and team problems. Finally I founded and became CEO of an IT firm. I left after eight years and became a writer, business advisor, non-executive director and member of a charity that provides advocacy support for people with learning difficulties. I've known good times, hard times and have travelled a bit. The next book in the Sam Duncan series, DarkArt, will be published in summer 2012.
