Movies Worth Watching | by Les Broad Sep. 30, 2011 | 4038 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: That picture isn't me. It's my much-loved Border Collie bitch, who I lost to a spinal tumour in April 2011. She deserves this memorial. I was born a very, very long time ago, very close to my mother in England. Now I live in Wales, which isn't England but is part of the UK. I've written all sorts of stuff, but mostly science fiction. It's sort of believable sci-fi - maybe it can't happen today, but might tomorrow, you know? The sci-fi novels are all on the theme of 'first contact' and the first one is being given away free. You'll have to pay for the others. Sorry. I've got other novels, short stories and things that are supposed to be funny too but whether they are is your decision, right? Some of the books are based on real incidents - I know they are, because they happened to me. There are five in total, I've released two, two are being tidied up and the last one won't be finished for a while yet. If you read one, remember it all happened to me and that I don't mind being laughed at. I'm used to it. A while back I released a free book, 'Top Of The Shop'. (If you're a writer you might want to read it. I'll say no more.) I've since released another one, 'Tea, Drums And Speed'. So now the first sci-fi novel is free, 'Top Of The Shop' is free, and there's a free volume of short stories. I must be mad, giving this stuff away. Mind you, it hasn't stopped me giving away a book of political thoughts. If you're from Wales, or British, or even interested in Welsh politics, it might be worth reading. There's also a free book about some films that appeal to me. You might find it interesting but I thought it would be a bit cheeky to want money for it. Have it on me. There's one little thing I don't understand. Of everything I've put on this site, I think the stories in 'Swift Shifts' are the funniest, yet it's the title that's looked at least often. Why is that, do you think? After a gap of several months I've now added a new three-story volume of funny stories. To balance this, there's a thoroughly miserrable one on its way! A word or two about my pricing strategy might be worthwhile. A lot of people on this site (and I apologise if I've got this wrong) quote prices that are just a bit cheaper than you'd see in a bookstore. I don't do that. Ebooks don't have production or distribution costs, so why should you, the book buyer, have to pay even a tiny share of something that doesn't exist? Isn't it better to spend, say, $3 on three little books than on just one? I want you to enjoy what I've written, and at a realistic cost to you that I can live with. Simple, isn't it? I'll add to this from time to time - there's no point saying everything at once, is there? You'd have no need to come back, would you? |

The London Blogger: Blogservations on life and its many f***ing irritants. | by Robert Clear Aug. 28, 2011 | 54932 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I'm a twenty-nine year old writer from London. When I'm not shaking my fist at my rickety laptop I'm busy trying to remember how to write using pen and paper. I grew up reading Greek myths. In fact they were such a big part of my literary diet that until the age of nine I can hardly remember digesting anything else. Thus, after an upbringing saturated with murder, intrigue and blood feuds (all of a literary variety, of course), I decided to put my hand to writing a novel. The result is The Cambridge List, an ever-so English tale of gods, sex and death amidst the ivory towers of Cambridge University. Bringing the Greek gods to life on the page turned out to be rather fun, and having discovered that dark humour and epic killing sprees go rather well together I'm currently working on the sequel. If you think the idle musings of a personage such as myself are likely to amuse you, they can be found in agonising detail on my blog. If, however, you prefer ramblings of a more pithy variety you can read them on Twitter. |

Simple Word Find - Sports Edition | by K Lenart Aug. 20, 2011 | 7864 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: My story is a bit dramatic. I entered self-publishing when my wife and I faced a triple-threat life changing series of events. She was diagnosed with cancer & lost her job at the same time. I was self-employed, but took time off from projects to care for her. When I tried to work again after her treatments were complete, the economy had tanked and I was only 10% busy. We suffered financially for the better part of 3 years and came within a hair of losing our house. Thankfully in late 2010 things started to turn around. They're still pretty dicey, but I'm trying to stay optimistic and I keep plugging away at this publishing "second career" to try to make ends meet. Anyway, I've been at it for a few years now and have a small portfolio of offerings. Hopefully you're here reading this because you find one or more of them interesting. I thank you for all your support from the bottom of my heart. P.S. If I'm being brutally honest, my latest book "What Really Happened?" which was co-authored with two other talented writers is the best effort yet. It's truly funny, meaty, and professionally edited/presented. If you like intellectual humor, you can't go wrong with that. |

Before there was Beer Pong... | by Brenda Cothern June 06, 2011 | 11079 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I am an avid reader & writer of fantasy, paranormal and erotic fiction. When not writing, I read two to three novels a week, write book reviews, play D&D/LFR, and attend gaming conventions. I have worked a plethora of jobs... an amusement park ride supervisor, EMT, ER Tech., bartender, dancer (yep, 'that' kind!), land surveyor, CSR, Dir. of Ops for a marketing company, and now I am a writer. I write books that I love to read. Characters that you want to know more about in stories that hold your interest (hopefully!) I write sex. Plain and simple. No soft-core romance but the honest to good sex as it is supposed to be. You won't find sex thrown in randomly but when you do find it, I write it as I see it. I write all types of erotica in fantasy & paranormal settings but mainly write male/male romances. I have also written female/male, female/male/male, and BDSM. I never plan to write a specfic erotica so there is no telling what characters my muse may allow to tell their stories for next. For signed Kindle copies of my books, please send me a request through Kindlegraph! http://www.kindlegraph.com/authors/BCothernBooks I would love to hear from you, drop me a line or send me a message! |

Cerebus Film: An Epic Journey | by Carma Chan May 12, 2011 | 2555 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: NEWS - MAY 2012: The first audio book of my scifi series is now available at Audible, Amazon and iTunes. Appropriate for all ages. Search for Saardu or Carma Chan at your favorite ebook and audiobook site. ABOUT CARMA: Yes, it is my real name. And no, my parents were not hippies. I come from a Utah Mormon family, and no, I am not a Mormon though most of my brothers and sisters and their kids are, and we get along. I was born a California Girl and I love L.A.! You can take the girl out of the warmth, but you can't make her cold! I started writing poetry at age twelve and still do on occasion. My passion for the challenges of wordsmithing an excellent Haiku translates well to screenwriting, which requires tremendous discipline and structure. Lately, I have gotten excited about the ebook trend and decided to focus all of my spare time and energy on finishing my scifi series, Saardu. I am currently working on audio books 1-5 and the 6th ebook. My training as a writer came from four memorable teachers: Mrs. Dunn, 7th Grade English at Dixie Junior High School in St. George, Utah; Miss Hill, 9th Grade English at Riverside Junior and Mr. Forrest at Murray High School; and last but not least, Professor Richard Walter at UCLA Film School. I also learned from brutally honest peers in writing workshops, who gave me high fives for originality, dialogue and creating characters people care about. What inspired me to write science fiction? Well, it wasn't science fiction novels, that's for sure! Not that there is anything wrong with them, I simply was not a fan of the genre and never read a single one of the classics. Not even one sentence. The closest I came to that genre in literature is Douglas Adams, because his wonderfully absurd Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy trilogy of four novels when I read them (now there is a fifth book included in that 'trilogy') made me laugh out loud a lot. Don't worry, I hated the movies based on his books as much as most of his fans did--someone with real passion and a ton of money needs to do that series of movies right! But wait--let's do Saardu movies first!! Narnia was a huge inspiration for me as a childhood favorite that I have read many times. However, Saardu is not an allegory for Christianity or for atheism. It is not a spiritual fable at all. It is science fantasy. It is mythological in nature. It has everything to do with my fascination upon looking at Hubble Telescope snapshots of the universe, as well as my unquenchable curiosity about my brother's schizophrenia and the mind in general, and finally it is ripe with my love of movies in general (including scifi favorites like Star Wars and Star Trek--yes, I love scifi movies, I'm simply not a fan of reading scifi, though I do love to write it!) Annoyed by how often Hollywood screws up movies--such as the way they changed the ending of 'Love Story', a movie I hated as a teen, after I loved the book--I decided to learn to write for film, and wrote Saardu as a screenplay. After it won awards and the professor's letter of recommendation, I adapted that version of Saardu to novel form, and continued along those lines for the sequels. (Saardu will have to build an established audience as a novel before anyone in Hollywood will put their career on the chopping block to produce a big budget film project written by an unknown talent, that's the way it is for big budget screenplays, even when they've won high praise and writing awards.) As the mood strikes, I also write short stories, memoirs, parenting articles, essays, poetry, and children's picture books. My goal is to gradually build an audience and grow old together. My fans love me for my imagination, experimentation, bravery, sass and zest for life! I'm a down-to-earth tomboy at heart, a Bohemian, a folk singer, geek, gardener, nature photographer, and above all I am a good Mom. |

Kostenloses Ebook mit Erlaeuterungen zur Astrologie | by Eckhart Landes May 11, 2011 | 1887 words | Read a sample |
