Cerebus ~ Under the Aardvarkian Spell | by Carma Chan Nov. 15, 2010 | 1077 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: NEWS - MAY 2012: The first audio book of my scifi series is now available at Audible, Amazon and iTunes. Appropriate for all ages. Search for Saardu or Carma Chan at your favorite ebook and audiobook site. ABOUT CARMA: Yes, it is my real name. And no, my parents were not hippies. I come from a Utah Mormon family, and no, I am not a Mormon though most of my brothers and sisters and their kids are, and we get along. I was born a California Girl and I love L.A.! You can take the girl out of the warmth, but you can't make her cold! I started writing poetry at age twelve and still do on occasion. My passion for the challenges of wordsmithing an excellent Haiku translates well to screenwriting, which requires tremendous discipline and structure. Lately, I have gotten excited about the ebook trend and decided to focus all of my spare time and energy on finishing my scifi series, Saardu. I am currently working on audio books 1-5 and the 6th ebook. My training as a writer came from four memorable teachers: Mrs. Dunn, 7th Grade English at Dixie Junior High School in St. George, Utah; Miss Hill, 9th Grade English at Riverside Junior and Mr. Forrest at Murray High School; and last but not least, Professor Richard Walter at UCLA Film School. I also learned from brutally honest peers in writing workshops, who gave me high fives for originality, dialogue and creating characters people care about. What inspired me to write science fiction? Well, it wasn't science fiction novels, that's for sure! Not that there is anything wrong with them, I simply was not a fan of the genre and never read a single one of the classics. Not even one sentence. The closest I came to that genre in literature is Douglas Adams, because his wonderfully absurd Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy trilogy of four novels when I read them (now there is a fifth book included in that 'trilogy') made me laugh out loud a lot. Don't worry, I hated the movies based on his books as much as most of his fans did--someone with real passion and a ton of money needs to do that series of movies right! But wait--let's do Saardu movies first!! Narnia was a huge inspiration for me as a childhood favorite that I have read many times. However, Saardu is not an allegory for Christianity or for atheism. It is not a spiritual fable at all. It is science fantasy. It is mythological in nature. It has everything to do with my fascination upon looking at Hubble Telescope snapshots of the universe, as well as my unquenchable curiosity about my brother's schizophrenia and the mind in general, and finally it is ripe with my love of movies in general (including scifi favorites like Star Wars and Star Trek--yes, I love scifi movies, I'm simply not a fan of reading scifi, though I do love to write it!) Annoyed by how often Hollywood screws up movies--such as the way they changed the ending of 'Love Story', a movie I hated as a teen, after I loved the book--I decided to learn to write for film, and wrote Saardu as a screenplay. After it won awards and the professor's letter of recommendation, I adapted that version of Saardu to novel form, and continued along those lines for the sequels. (Saardu will have to build an established audience as a novel before anyone in Hollywood will put their career on the chopping block to produce a big budget film project written by an unknown talent, that's the way it is for big budget screenplays, even when they've won high praise and writing awards.) As the mood strikes, I also write short stories, memoirs, parenting articles, essays, poetry, and children's picture books. My goal is to gradually build an audience and grow old together. My fans love me for my imagination, experimentation, bravery, sass and zest for life! I'm a down-to-earth tomboy at heart, a Bohemian, a folk singer, geek, gardener, nature photographer, and above all I am a good Mom. |

We brain wash you without your consent. God's manual for the media. | by Free From Bondage Ministry Oct. 21, 2010 | 11683 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Free From Bondage Ministry was started just a few short years ago. As a newly ordained minister, I felt that too many people were tinkering around with God's Word. Translating it into what made them comfortable, rather than how God's Word could help them be accountable and truly righteous. And the stakes are too high to be tinkering. It is your eternal life you are gambling with. Because there is a distinct difference between saying to believe in God, and acting as a believer in God. And that difference could make all the difference for your salvation. The message from Free From Bondage Ministry is simple, yet not easy. But we have seen "miracles" that even many with a strong faith discard as "impossible". Which made us aware that the message we got from God needed to be brought to a bigger public. Hence these books. There is more information available at our website: www.freefrombondage.weebly.com And yes, we are a very small ministry. No bells and whistles, no fancy stuff. We use what comes our way to spread God's Word. So referrals are highly appreciated. May God bless you, Free From Bondage Ministry. |

Early prize-winning writer (prize U.N.S.L, 1974) born in Argentina, during many years standing aside from literary activity, began this century with a copious production and is recovering from past silences. He likes to read, loves dogs and a good glass of wine -in addition to his family and friends. At present, he spends his time writing and cupping specialty coffees. The author’s voice skirts the limits of poetry, brief tales, and micro essays. With humor, irony or passion, he does not intend to teach anything; just provoke at most. His colloquial register recalls a conversation among friends, deploying a unique style, with distant accents of the River Plate region. |

Mann on Film: It's a Mad World and other essays | by S. E. Mann Dec. 02, 2009 | 29175 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: S.E. Mann lives and breathes in Tokyo, Japan. There, he masquerades as an actor, director, writer, and sometimes teacher, all of which he loves doing but with as little effort as possible. Mr. Mann is currently finishing-up an independent feature film on which he has spent countless hours, days, months, and years 'finishing-up.' He spends much of the rest of his time riding his motorcycle, hiking in the Japanese mountains, drinking enormous amounts of green tea, and working in media. Hoping to someday reach the level of being relentlessly pursued by a stalwart investigator obsessed with his capture, Mr. Mann is currently content with simply being hounded by a local chapter of the Ladies Flower Arrangement Society. A graduate of a large, well known, very liberal ivy-covered northeastern American university in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, S. E. Mann has voted Democrat and Republican in the past and hopes someday to run for public office himself. A lover of language great and small, he subscribes to the styles of Buckley over O'Reilly, Paar over Maher, and, 'round midnight, Carson over anyone. Saddened but not discouraged by the steep decline in quality and message from Hollywood, Mr. Mann hopes to add his voice to a resurgence in the industry for the kind of films, the great movies that Americans were known for around the world. S. E. Mann is not his real name. |
