Armadura de Dios | by Riley Weber April 24, 2012 | 591 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Riley Weber resides in Mesa, Arizona. He has been telling (and making up) stories since he was young. Many moons ago, Riley's favorite topic in grade school was not recess, but creative writing. Recess and lunch came second and third. He loves to write stories of adventures in far (and close) away lands. His inspiration comes from his two young boys who love all things that have to do with diggers, dinosaurs, sports, cars, and chicken nuggets. His stories are tried and tested on his two little munchkins. Riley has always had a passion for art and doodling. He draws cartoons on nearly every paper that comes within arms length of his hands. Recently, he has fined tuned some of his art and writing skills by studying painting and fine art at the local community college. He has also taken courses in writing and storytelling, and writes stories and songs in his free time. Riley has composed and recorded dozens of songs for children which are available worldwide by the character he invented; Nooshi the Balloon Dude. Some of Riley's compositions by Nooshi are top children's Easter, Halloween, and birthday songs. Just recently Riley has dove into the world of authoring and illustrating ebooks. He has many future books ideas with plans to write and illustrate them himself. If you'd like a sneak peak at Riley's next project or would like to find out what other books he has available, visit his website at www.rileyweberart.com. You can also become friends with Riley on Facebook. |

The Four Genders Handbook | by Sam Small April 24, 2012 | 74244 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I was born on the island of Portsmouth on the south coast of Hampshire, England. I was brought up on the sprawling council estate called Paulsgrove, on the mainland just north of the island. It was created for World War II refugees from the bombed out Portsmouth. The Germans did a thorough job. Paulsgrove was filled with misfits, dysfunctional families, violent teenagers and I had a view of the Isle of Wight from by bedroom window. I loved Paulsgrove till I was twelve. I worked in the Royal Dockyard, Portsmouth as an electrical fitter. After meeting some teachers in one of the popular sixties folk clubs, I decided to be a teacher. I taught for two years and then became a residential social worker. I followed that by being a recording studio engineer and record producer but I went back to teaching as a computer studies lecturer. Shortly afterwards I moved from Portsmouth to London. I became a computer programmer, computer maintenance engineer and website designer but also began writing and making short films. I got married for the first time late, very late. However, it saved my life in many ways. My purpose is now to use my energy type to make a positive difference in people's lives. |

The Second Coming of Christ | by Mohammad Amin Sheikho April 23, 2012 | 88049 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: The humane Eminent Scholar Mohammad Amin Sheikho (His soul has been sanctified by Al’lah)(1890-1964) His full moon appeared over Damascus in the year 1890. He completed his studies when he became eighteen years old. He graduated in the rank of security officer. He faced storms of criminals in his work with courage and boldness, and he besieged many guerrillas and arrested their leaders. All his works were crowned in victory and support until he was surnamed ‘Aslan’, meaning ‘the lion’. After he became forty years old: His sanctified assemblies were distinguished by charming and unique revelation in perfect and plain meanings, and complete presence of reality. His words used to hit the target and fall cool and peaceful in the hearts of the listeners, as a light that bewitched them to free their spirits to soar very high. Why are we created? What is this universe for? What is the use of religious rituals? What is hunger for, followed by eating in Ramadan? What is the output and benefit of prayer? Why do pilgrimage to a waterless and treeless desert? Why were we brought into existence? Where were we? What is death for? And what is really after it? What is the spirit? What is the soul? What is the mind? What is paradise? What is hell? What about the problem of fate? What is the pre-material world (the world of spirits)? On the year 1953, the great philosopher Sir John Godolphin Bennett had come to meet him, and wrote one book about this great meeting called (Journeys in Islamic Countries). He spent a valuable life full of knowledge of God, which the heart does not feel safe without, and without which humankind won’t achieve happiness until he joined the highest Comrade in the first days of Rabi’ Thani in the year 1964. |

I am older than 25 but still feel that young. The older I get, the more I realize how much in I have in common with everyone else. I prefer to write about the dramas of real people, ordinary people--not the rich and famous. The unseen and unacknowledged lives sweated out and rejoiced over and agonized through are much more interesting. I still work for a living--in a high school--and realize I should've been a history professor. Maybe next time. |

Things a Monkey Could Cook | by Jean Stites April 19, 2012 | 55739 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Chronologically, I span approximately sixty years; and I’ve paraphrased this unsurpassable opening line from Janet, who was my suitemate at SUNY Binghamton: a place which also gave me a B.A. in Music and my husband. We have two swell children and a pussycat. We raised our family in Georgia, as I supplemented my piano teaching with a variety of anthropologically instructive employments while entertaining myself during many treasured twilight hours with the pursuit of literature for fun and enlightenment, until a tempestuous fate blew this grateful musician into the relatively safe haven of San Francisco Bay. While I grew up in Oakwood, New York: an unmapped hamlet, smack dab in the middle of the Finger Lakes, where at an early age I contracted pneumonia after playing in the snow, which sent me to bed and turned me into a reader. Then I went temporarily blind when I was fifteen and laid there once again in the dark, making up stories and metamorphosing into a writer. After that I became a valedictorian, went out into the wide wacky world, and soon learned that I really didn’t know squat about anything.... Although having now given it all some thought, of course, I pray my audience will feel that I’ve made some progress. Plus, having now also spent quite some time making up stories in the dark, I hope they'll be as much fun for you to read as they are for me to write. |
